“Beautiful place to stay!”
Reviewed 26 July 2009

I'd definatley recommend staying at Derwent House. Carol and co go above and beyond to ensure that your stay is a good one. The rooms are a little on the small side but perfectly formed! Nice little touches like a nighttime chocolate and free internet make you feel right at home. Situated at the foot of table mountain, you're no more than a short taxi ride away from the docks and some excellent shopping en route. We'll definately be back on our next visit to cape town which I hope is soon!!!

It is a beautiful spot with nice style and comfortable rooms, but what really impressed us was the warm welcomes and incredible service we received there. This perfect service level was extended across four different people who were hosting at all different times of the day. I will be wholeheartedly recommending Drewent House to everyone who will be visiting Cape Town.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Derwent House based purely on the reviews on Tripadvisor, we were not disappointed. They certainly warrant the award that they have proudly displayed from Tripadvisor.
The owners were away when we stayed there, but Vuyo made us feel totally welcome from the moment we arrived. She gave us a full guided tour, so we knew where everything was.
The decor is warm and welcoming. Our bedroom was beautifully presented when we arrived, and remained like that when we returned each night. A lovely touch was the scroll on the bed each evening containing the weather forecast for the next day and some facts about that date, the chocolate was nice too! The bed was huge, and the bathroom had a large bath and separate shower. The balcony overlooked the pool and had views of Table Mountain.
Breakfast was full and hearty, and the Honesty Bar was a great idea. It was also nice to borrow DVD's at no extra cost to watch in our room if we wanted to. There is a laptop in the lounge with internet access for guests to use.
We could park our hire car off road, and Vuyo ordered us taxis whenever we needed them.
We would definitely recommend this lovely, initmate guesthouse, and we will return ourselves one day soon, hopefully!!

Beautiful, friendly boutique hotel with the friendliest and most helpful staff you can imagine. Bandy in particular was really helpful. The honour bar and complimentary tea/coffee and cakes were a pleasure to have. Lovely breakfasts. Gorgeous room. Shame about the weather! I look forward to coming back in the summer some time.

Carol and Jo have completely renovated a stately home, turning it into a stylish, comfortable boutique hotel for those who want the quality of a luxury hotel, but with the scale and ambiance of a cozy property, for about a third the price. The staff do everything in their power to make your visit perfect. The chef prepares breakfast (included) to your order from a menu. There's an honour bar, a living room that actually invites you to come down from your room, a pool area that is elegant, and gorgeous art galore. The location is wonderful -- a safe and easy walk to restaurants, and a quick taxi ride to the waterfront. We would never stay anywhere else in Cape Town.

Instead of a hotel this has the feel of staying with dear friends, if you are not already you surely will be by the end of the stay. Lovely touches, decor, warmth of hospitality, interest in your daily plans, recommendations for restaurants and follow ups, bookings made, pick ups from airport sorted, staff who live locally and who love their work. Would not have any hesitation in recommending this small and comfortable hotel to anyone either on holiday or business. In fact, if you were on business it would add all the 'extras' that a big hotel cannot deliver to the experience, warmth and heart.

Stayed 17-19th June and it 'does exactly what it says on the tin' - could not be faulted in any way shape or form and puts 5 star hotels to shame in regard to service, comfort, style and general ambiance. Best breakfasts in Africa! Would recommend to anyone. Room 4 looks directly onto Table Mountain and is US sized with an ace bathroom and separate shower. Fabulous all round.

In a city renowned for hospitality, Derwent House stands out as one of Cape Town's leading boutique guesthouses. Located in the heart of the vibrant Tamboerskloof/Gardens neighbourhood, this small hotel combines historic charm, contemporary Afro-chic style and all mod-cons for a uniquely Capetonian blend of ambience, warmth, and comfort. Our wonderful team completes the picture -- we go the extra mile for you and our guests leave as friends. We love colour and celebrate African design - you'll find it everywhere. But when it comes to the basics - like breakfast, bedding, showers, climate control, Wi-fi or news from home - we don't compromise so you don't have to. At Derwent House, you're steps away from the hustle and buzz of Kloof Street, with its collection of superb restaurants, bars and trendy boutiques--and just a few further to the nightlife hub of Bree and Long Streets. Yet just a short car journey from the Table Mountain cable car, the beaches of Clifton or Camp's Bay, and the V&A Waterfront. There's nowhere more central -- but come and see for yourself.
