My wife and I traveled to S. Africa for the World Cup and sight-seeing. After spending a week visiting Durban and the Garden Route, we stayed at the Redbourne Hilldrop for our 2 nights in Cape Town.
We stayed in the new guest room which was formerly a kitchen. The first morning there was literally zero water pressure in the shower. I had the hot water turned as far as I could, and there was literally just a trickle of water flowing. My wife took a shower 20 min later and it was fine - not sure what happened, but definitely not fantastic. The breakfast seating is somewhat awkward as all guests face a window. We were there during unusual cold, and the first morning there was no heat in the breakfast area (the second morning they brought in a space heater which helped a bit, but it was still cold). Another quirk I wasn't so fond of - we were required to leave our car keys on the entryway table every night and then the owners would move all the guests' cars into their driveway. Unlike every other place we stayed, where we could come and go as we pleased, we found this to be odd. We didn't have any problems, but it was weird.
All in all, the Redbourne was fine, but just not as nice as other places we stayed. To us, it was the definition of average - nothing outstanding and memorable, nothing terrible, just very middle of the road.
