I just returned from my first visit with my partner to this small, welcoming and comfortable gay guest house. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be coming back.

I was very pleasantly surprised at how well located Cactus House was. The place has stunning views over parkland towards Table Mountain; a good selection of restaurants is within walking distance and the beaches at Clifton are less than 10 minutes drive.

Our room was very spacious with a large balcony where we could relax at the end of the day with a cocktail and enjoy the view.

The atmosphere is very relaxed, friendly and welcoming while maintaining a good professional standard of service. Staff were knowledgable about Cape Town with good recommendations for restaurants and trips out. The inclusive breakfast was generous and good with fruit, cereals and cooked breakfast on offer every day.

Negatives: none significant. Wi-Fi is available and fast but not free. The pool area is fairly cramped, but it gets plenty of sun and is good for if you feel like a day off from the beach.

Overall I really liked Cactus House and would recommend it to any gay traveller wanting a relaxing break in a friendly guest house.

good points - clean, spacious and good quality bed and bed linnen

not so good points - advertize establishment as "for gay men only" with pool and jacuzzy and, and ..... Neither pool or jacuzzy were guest friendly clean and / or usable. Not all visitors to CT (and then selecting a "for gay men only" establishment) are there for holiday and whatever - but on business. Nowhere a desk/table and chair to do the odd mail or letter. To make coffee, you have to re-arange room to get to a power point .
No negotiation for brakfast time that will suit client - breakfast at 08:30 when on business? Coffe was offered as an alternative. No discount for not taking breakfast?
And then only off street parking is available.

so - does the fact that the establishment is in CT and caters for "gay men only" justify their fee - definately not
will I recommend to other - only if value for money is not important to you

My partner and I had our first trip to SA and our first night at this INN in Cape Town, 24 hours travel from US to Cape Town. Morne the manager is a gem, wanted to take him home with us! Gave great service, great advice about what to do, where to go, etc. The Inn is very comfortable, breakfast is huge! In Cape Town watch for pickpockets everywhere, particularly at the Bronx Bar!

Tim with Friends of Dorothy Travel, was great. Took two tours, Wine Country and Penninsular--great value and great guide.

We spent six nights at the Cactus House in Cape Town, and even though it was technically the "off" season, we had a wonderful time.

The inn is in what was once a single-family home. It has 5-6 rooms, a small pool for dipping (not swimming, too small), and a hot tub. Our room was extremely spacious with a king-size bed, a balcony, and we could see Table Mountain. This is not a "fancy" place, so if that is what you need, you will want to look elsewhere, but we were treated like family and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Mone, the innkeeper/manager was friendly and helpful and a joy to spend time with. He's also a very good cook, and breakfasts were substantial with far more than we could eat.

The location worked well for us as we enjoy walking and there were two nearby parks as well as shopping areas only about 10-15 minutes away. We also used cabs as needed and found them relatively inexpensive (about 40 Rand) to get to the "gay area" and slightly more to the Waterfront.

Internet is available for 200 Rand for the duration of your stay. We could find it for less at internet cafes not far away but we were willing to pay the extra for the convenience of having it at the inn.

Had a wonderful stay at the Cactus House last November and would highly recommend to any good boys visiting beautiful mother city.

The Cactus is located very pleasantly in Oranjezicht right on the slopes of Table Mountain, overlooking the city. An aray of really good restaurants is in walking distance on Kloof and you can just as well walk down to Long Street. Parking right in front of the gate was never an issue.

The house itself as well as the rooms are very tastefully furnished and decorated and offer a great mixture of old structure and contemporary design. One of the undoubted highlights is the balcony (Superior Rooms) with it's view on Table Mountain and the vintage bathtub on it. What else could you dream of than having a bubblebath while gazing on the Mountain after an exhausting day on Sandy Bay ;-) Not to forget: the beds!!! Spacious, home of the sweetest dreams and the best pillows that ever came across our way.

The hosts Simon and Martin really made our stay a memorable one. These guys just ROCK and were supporting and offering help on whatever wish or plan you had, indeed very pleasant company. Also the maintenance staff Albert and Sylvia were so warmhearted and friendly that you felt welcome and at home every minute.

The service and especially the breakfast was excellent. If ever you visit the Cactus don' t miss to taste Martin's pancakes....dare to ask for them...ideally every morning....these are the best worldwide!!!!!

Leaving was a pain, but we will be back for sure!!! For pancakes AND another GREAT TIME!!!

Thanks again, guys!!!
