simple but tastefully furnished, great breakfast, good location (even if at times it seems a little dangerous), very friendly staff, excellent advice on restaurants and things to do, lobby phone always at your disposal to make local calls, possibility of free street parking with night private guard.

Wonderful hosts, Brilliant Setting, Very Accessible Location.. Makes the Stay in Cape Town Absolutely Perfect! Rooms are slightly small- But the warm hosts and the nice setting more than make up for lack of space! An absolute must-stay if you want to do justice to Cape Town- In a hurry!

We had a lovely five night stay in November, this was a great base in Cape Town, we found it easy to get everywhere from here. The owners are really lovely and gave us lots of great recommendations for trips to go on and where to eat etc.

The breakfasts are really good and you get to chat to fellow travellers and swap stories which is nice. Our only negative comment is that our room was really small, there was just enough room to get around the bed and with two suit cases we were quite cramped. However, we spent so little time in the room this was not really a problem.

The B&B is very nice, nice room, lovely bathroom with a big bath but no hook for shower head so you have to hold over your head for a shower!

Good location and we loved the area.

The welcome information was a bit much, felt a little like a lecture. We had explained that we had been in Cape Town for a few days already so it wasn't needed but still had to sit through it.

Biggest issue was on returning to our room one day we found two men painting in our room. I don't expect to find decorating going on in a room that we have paid to stay in, if maintenance work is required surely the management should take the hit and not book the room out. A big deal is made about security at the place but to find your room door wide open with two random men in did not feel very safe. They left once we arrived but didn't tell us that the door had wet paint on it and nothing was said by the owners, room smelt of paint for the next day. We would have brought this up with the owners but with limited time in a city we didn't want to waste time on our holiday complaining to the owners.

A family of four (kids 18 and 22), we stayed at The Rose for 3 nights in late July. Yuan was quick to fit us in when we suddenly altered our dates - backwards - having realised that our original dates would have had us arriving in Cape Town just as the Table Mountain cable car was being shut-down for its 5 weeks of winter maintenance! As it was we went up on the last day (the queues were horrendous ... would be there at 8am next time, at the front of the queue!) in glorious weather. The Rose is a wonderful place, a real boutique hotel; it was refreshing to stay somewhere so individual. I even opened the window in my bathroom after my showers as I was concerned about the steam and condensation spoiling the amazing hand-drawn cartoons on the bathroom wall. The communal breakfast was great as it allowed us to talk to fellow travellers and swap advice as to what to see/ where to go. Our host, Yuan, was at breakfast each day to dispense advice too. Breakfast was all the usuals plus decent coffee (Yuan is French) and fresh, warm muffins. The location of The Rose is good; we either walked places or took short taxis rides, and then on the last morning we collected a hire car from Avis (just around the corner from The Rose) to continue our travels. We will definitely stay with Yuan again when in Cape Town.
