The Executive Club Lounge in the Westin hotel is a bit special. It’s located on the top (19th) floor of the hotel and serves a superb breakfast. Really, truly outstanding with an excellent buffet complemented by a menu of wonderful cooked to order hot dishes. Most of these are not your standard hotel breakfast fare and really set the lounge apart. The Mushroom Royal is fantastic! There’s also the second largest collection of fruit juices I’ve seen in a hotel (the largest being 19 floors down in the hotels main restaurant). In the evening the lounge serves complimentary drinks and canapés from 5pm to 7pm and shares its space with the Hotels more up-market restaurant. In all honesty this shared arrangement can sometimes make the space feel slightly uncomfortable depending on who’s in the lounge at the time but there are two huge redeeming features that more than make up for this. The first is the view. There are windows on two sides and sipping a glass of wine while watching the changing colour of Table mountain is a very easy way to spend an hour. Next to that you’ve got Lions Head, also equally impressive and further round a great view of the waterfront area with Robben Island in the distance. It really is a fantastic setting that has to be seen to be believed. The second feature that really makes this lounge special is the staff. They are truly superb. Professional but warm and friendly they have a genuine interest in their guests and this really shows through. I’ve seen them deal with some, frankly, difficult people in the lounge and they still manage to smile. All the staff are good in the lounge but there are 3 or 4 outstanding people who I’ve really enjoyed talking with. I was going to mention them by name but they know who they are and I hope they know how much I’ve appreciated them during my visits. In summary lounge access is the absolutely best reason to upgrade yourself to an executive room at check-in.

Sipping a cocktail while you listen to a really sophisticated sound and shake off the day is my kind of place. It's soft soft lights, plush carpets and a wide, deep vista of city lights below. This restaurant is perfect for escaping the dull reality of suburbia. The minute you take your seat you become a citizen of a smart, sophisticated set: an international traveller leaving and moving to new, exotic locations. (Even if you have just fixed the broken lawnmower in your suburban garage a few hours before.)

Not sure what the history of this restaurant has been but the night I went there I had a starter - a mezze platter - which was a work of art. From the fragile glass potato to the spicy dip and the deep flavour of perfectly ripe cheddar and salad leaves, the chef who made this is a genius. Each dish was perfectly balanced, perfectly pitched with textures and flavours that enchant. The food is nutritious, fresh and healthy. Service is attentive (without being overbearing), napkins and table-clothes are pristine and starched. But the vibe is relaxed and very smart. It's the kind of place where you propose to your partner or start a new business venture. And the food - it is fine dining at its best. Sublime. What is surprising is why is has remained on the edge of the Cape Town cognoscenti radar.

Visited this place as we are members of the spa and walk past quite often.
This place is far from 5star
It must be said we were there for lunch so maybe they have skeleton staff during this time, but dont believe that should be a excuse.
I had the fillet, it was under cooked if not raw/goo yes, goo! It was like it had been defrosted then frozen and defrosted again and cooked at a low heat that attempted to boil it.
Sent it back....manager did not even bother to come over until I refused to pay for it.
There are far better places to spend your dinners in Cape Town.
View is amazing.....but that's about it.
Staff are also pretentious.
I know they not linked anymore but Arabella in hermanus equally as hopeless on the food front

We visited the WEC for a coffee, and what a pleasant surprise when we walk in. It is like we are suspended above Cape Town. With a view that will take your breath away. I'm definitely going back for dinner and according to the staff the breakfast is magnificent.
