“GREAT SUSHI!”
Reviewed 15 June 2013

First and foremost the sushi is great at Sake House. Eddie, the owner & chef, is the master at churning out interesting sushi! Such a pity that the restaurant has zero atmosphere and is in a terrible location overlooking a car showroom/workshop. It is in central Claremont which is great but not a nice location. The service can be hit and miss, sometimes we have good service, then other times the service is shocking. The staff tend to stand around staring at the patrons.... If you are after good sushi and don't mind the rest then this is the place to go. Sake House has fantastic in eat/ take out specials during the week which are very affordable and good value for money.

“Disappointing and a waste of time”
Reviewed 11 May 2013 via mobile

My husband and I decided to give this place a go after we heard it had a makeover. The place was quite empty, but a few tables were occupied. Known for their outstanding sushi, we had lots to look forward to. We ordered 3 starters, but first received a little corn soup starter on the house, it was a thick swirl of flour and tasted like a uncooked white sauce with little bit of corn it. Not the way I would like to start a meal. I am afraid it went downhill from there. Then we received our plate of sushi which had piping hot prawns on top of it and this cooked the tuna inside the sushi roll, it was soggy and had a terrible texture to it, the only thing great about this dish is the sauce but not even the sauce could save it. Then our dim sum arrived, under cooked and it tasted like undercooked batter and had a elasticity problem, it was just gross. Then we tried the third starter it was a roll of some kind of fresh ingredients, the first item that looked appetizing but we were sadly mistaken as the peanuts in side the dish was burnt and spoiled the whole dish, we were so shocked that we just left, these people were totally unaware about how bad the food is.... Does no one look what goes out the kitchen, quality control??? by tasting dishes throughout the day. This was the worst place I have ever eaten by far. They need to shape up.

“Delicious meal, reasonably priced Sushi at its best”
Reviewed 8 April 2013

We are regular visitors to the Sake House Restaurant in Claremont in Western Cape. Parking is never a problem, the service is good and the Sushi always fresh and very tasty and ranks as one our best for Sushi.

“Never Fails To Satisfy!”
Reviewed 26 February 2013

We have visited this fine establishment many times, our most recent experience being over the past weekend. The service was good and the sushi, as usual, the best that we have managed yet to find in Cape Town. We usually go for individual platters, the Rainbow Nation and Salmon Combination being amongst our favourites. There is no doubt that the place is getting busier although booking is usually unnecessary and, often, the place can look pretty deserted. Do not be deceived, however, as, quiet or busy, you will get to enjoy an excellent meal.

“Good sushi”
Reviewed 27 January 2013

We went on a Saturday night. The place seemed empty when we got there but soon after we sat down other tables began to arrive. Sushi portions are huge, the tuna sashimi are twice the size of some other places. Our waiter was a bit forgetful but he was friendly and polite. I would however avoid the "Boerewors sushi" though.
