“Lunch in the Beer Garden”
Reviewed 22 April 2014

Firstly it's dog friendly which appeals to me and lots of other people who bring their dogs who all seem to be well behaved. There are tables inside and outside in the beer garden. Inside is quite dark but maybe that's to help people see the sport on the tv screens, we prefer outside in the beer garden when the weather is good. this is a family restaurant and you will find people of all ages, families and couples. The mood is relaxed so don't be in a hurry, nothing goes quickly at Peddlars, the food is much better these days although I am disappointed that they took their list of tapas plates off the menu. From the first drink order to the food order to getting and paying the bill, it will all come to you although it can be slow. The menu is quite extensive and there is something for everyone. Atmosphere is casual and relaxed and it's a real nice venue for a lazy afternoon with friends. There is a more upmarket restaurant attached call Volare where you get tablecloths and hopefully faster service.

“Saved by Lara”
Reviewed 18 March 2014

Peddlars has been around for ever and benefits from a very convenient Constantia location. And maybe it doesn't need to try.

There is a new chef, but what he cooks doesn't match the menu description. For example, seared tuna was a great lump of fish, about 3 inches square, lightly cooked on one side and thus inedible.

16oz sliced T-bone turned out to be the bone, a pile of gristley/grisly trimmings and cubes of steak, scattered on the plate. It looked like and tasted like the original dog's dinner.

We nibble a bit and drank a lot, but both the tuna and steak were subsequently doggy bagged (our house pets really enjoyed their supper). Our two local guests were embarrassed, with their food fairly forgettable (Osso Buco and Veal). But the bill was pretty good, c £50 inc 2 bottles of wine and 2 Irish coffees. Normally we would have walked, made a fuss etc, but the company was great and I can dine out on the event for years to come.

Management was pretty hopeless, but Lara, our waitress, was quite delightful, helpful, gorgeous.......I would go back just to see her again.....

“Two Visits”
Reviewed 18 March 2014

We like this so much we went twice. Once for a meal in their fine dinning restaurant. Again in their pub grub restaurant. Both occasion were great experiences. Service was high, food superb as was the selection of wines.

The Guinness was great.

“Positive change”
Reviewed 9 March 2014

This restaurant now has an Italian theme and is much the better for it. Not that there was much wrong with the food previously but it always seemed to lack a certain something. Good food and good service.
