“Friendly style”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 January 2014

Accessible, welcoming, away from the crowds, with plenty of parking. The River Café (at the entrance to Constantia Uitsig wine estate) is spacious, efficient and offers a splendid light menu. My friend and I both chose their version of Eggs Florentine, based on a round of crisp rosti potato. Delicious. The place and the menu look more expensive than it is. For dessert, the Choc Fudge Brownie was crisp on the outside and sweetly soft inside. A good list of local wines (including their own, of course). Between up-market Constantia and the Ou Kaapse Weg Pass, a venue worth escaping to.

“Perfect lunch setting”

Great place to visit for a perfect lunch. Court yard setting is lovely, not too close to other tables. Food is perfect. Service is excellent. Will be returning

“Wonderful service, good food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 January 2014

We wanted to have a quick vegetarian lunch and popped into the River Cafe. At first we were rather disappointed at the lack of vegetarian food but when we mentioned it to the most efficient, friendly, knowledgeable waiter he immediately called the manageress who apologised, showing us the new menu with more vegetarian options. My partner ordered the out of this world salad while I chose something that wasn't on the menu, but no problem they made a plan. Brilliant to see how good service, a bit of good will and good food can make a meal so enjoyable. Can only recommend the River Cafe for the quality of the food and the customer service. And on top of it the prices charged were extremely good value for money.

“A good way to while away a few hours”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 January 2014

Hot bothered and tired of driving around? This may be the answer. Given a hot summer's day in Cape Town this is an excellent stop off if doing a tour of the Pensinsula. It isn't very touristy because the staff are friendly and very attentive.
We were a group of five very hardened travellers and though the food isn't the greatest we enjoyed the excellent wine and the good vibe. Unbelievably the restaurant had run out of beef (in South Africa? How is this possible?) but there were a range of options from the menu. The chicken supreme curry was less than supreme and its presentation garbled - Chicken nestling in a poppadom on a bed of noodles? What is the chef smoking? But no matter, the staff compensated with delightful service.

“Uncomplicated, relaxed, tasty.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 January 2014

Lunch in the wine area of Constantia, Cape Town, is a tourist must. This relaxed mix of indoor and outdoor tables provided the opportunity to catch up on a fish dish that was once on many Cape menus, King Klip, though recently somewhat over fished in South African waters, so now more scarce. It was cooked just right and served on a green pea risotto. Spicy chicken livers for a starter, plus a glass of Rose (with ice - the purists must forgive me), was all I needed.
