I recently visited the Cellars Hohenort and was impressed with how the rooms have been given a face lift without being in conflict with the old and stately charm of this hotel. The Green House was recently awarded the enviable accolade South Africa's Best Restaurant and I really like the style of it; simple and welcoming rather than stiff and stuffy! We dined on traditional Cape Malay dishes in the small private dining room down below (not connected to The Green House) where chef Martha spoilt us with the tastiest butter chicken and lamb bredie (not before we had to prove we could roll our own samoosas; not as easy as it seems!). Such an amazing evening in such gracious surrounds.

Room Tip: Suite 60 is my favourite. Stylish layout, soothing colours and an impressive bathtub!

I appreciate you taking the time to post this review and have passed your very positive comments on to the team.

I gather Martha put you through your paces before your could enjoy her delicious Cape Malay meal.

Looking forward to personally welcoming you back.

At first I thought this restaurant, The Conservatory, at The Cellars-Hohenort, would be somewhat cold ... however, the heating in this restaurant was snug and warm, yet enjoying the "out-door" feel, seemed just perfect for a Sunday Lunch. From the on-set, the service was great, and the food choice just delicious, we spent several hours, just lazily enjoying the moment ! The selection of fresh breads was great. Try the Bobotie or the Gourmet Burger - really a super choice as well as the chocolate dessert - or the Apple with phyllo pastry served caramelized !! The Food is beautifully presented - a real work of art ! Wow , this was sure to send the taste buds to the ultimate high !

We stayed here for 2 nights in November while visiting our son who was studying in abroad in capetown.
The hotel was only half full. We were slightly annoyed they did not upgrade us having so many rooms vacant. Our room was on the small side with a shared terrace. It was chilly while we were there so we never sat outside. The ground are nothing short of spectacular. There are 2 buildings. Dinner is served in one, drinks, breakfast in the other. I believe rooms are in boths. Dinner was very good. If you are staying at the hotel, they will get you a table.
During our stay we did not see many other guests.
You must also go to the stellenbosch university gardens and the Kirstenbosch gardens

I spent several days in Cellars Hohenort and also a hotel in the Water Front. If you are young and want to have action, then the Water Front might interest you. However, to me the Water Front is very touristy and bit too noisy. Whilst this hotel is not centrally located, it has a nice ambiance and the restaurant serves great food. The winery at Constantia is also interesting and the white wine they make is quite superb when compared with other South African white.

This Relais-Chateau hotel has had a policy change and now welcomes children. We had an excellent lunch with our children and grand children on a recent Sunday and cant wait to
return. The food is delicious, there is an excellent wine list and the staff are as attentive and
courteous as one would hope for in an hotel of this level. The grounds are stunning and
well worth an exploration.
