We spent 2 nights at this recently completely renovated hotel! What a nice stay it was! The beautiful historical buildings go so well with the "new" look with a "twist" ! The rooms are spacious and make a bold statement with the added luxury of 2 bathrooms! The Deli is fabulous for sumptuous breakfasts and light meals - the 5 Rooms restaurant was fully booked on Friday night, giving it a great buzz! The waiters are excellent and very clued up - really great food and great presentation! It sure will be stunning to stay there in the summer months when all the oak trees are green and the gardens in full bloom..... For those who want to be away from the hustle of the Waterfront, this is an ideal location to spend a few days...the beaches of Muizenberg are also not far from here - and they have a limousine service which can take you to great restaurants all over the peninsula! Loved the vibe in combination with the tranquility here! (also kid friendly!)

Dear Mfaze
Thank you for a fabulous review and high recommendation. The general theme of combining classically historical with modern contemporary was the idea behind the complete revamp at the end of 2011. Your feedback proves that we have achieved this, along with top offerings, such as our two restaurants, three bars, beautiful grounds and spacious, ultra-luxurious suites.
We appreciate you taking time to write this review and thereby assisting other travellers to select an exceptional boutique hotel...a mere 15 minutes from Cape Town city centre.
Best Regards

We spent this last weekend at the beautiful and newly renovated 5 star Alphen Hotel in Constantia, Cape Town, celebrating my birthday. Dinner at 5 Rooms, with 10 of my best friends, was an amazing experience. The food was simply outstanding, the wine selection great and the service unbelievable. A must try is the Durbanville Hills Rhinofields Merlot. The children had dinner at La Belle and we also had breakfast there the next morning and once again, the food and service was excellent. The suites are really beautiful with modern finishes and some really surprise design elements. We loved the white interiors with splashes of blue, red and purples to create an oasis of true serenity. The bedrooms are spacious and our suites had his & her bathrooms, a separate lounge + a private terrace, which made it the perfect space for us to all really relax. The experience was truly amazing with even the GM, Robert, checked in on us to see if all was ok. I highly recommend The Alphen Boutique Hotel - Thomas Houghton-Dixon.

The new hotel is beautifully renovated with incredible attention to detail. The room was a treat, the restaurants superb - we ate in both the Rose Bar (lunch) and the 5 Rooms (dinner) - and I can honestly say this was some of the best food I have eaten in a long time. The staff were very professional and friendly - and all in all the Alphen is a winner!

The newly renovated hotel boasts the coolest bar, overlooking gorgeous gardens and pool. Its outside and really chilled. Have to be there at sunset.
The hotel also hosts the five rooms restaurant, which takes full advantage of the grand old rooms, with cutting edge decor, service and menu. It's not the cheapest or best restaurant this side of the mountain but the decor, service and general ambience make it a great place to spend an evening.

Room Tip: My review relates only to the restaurant and outdoor bar.

Thank you for your favourable review on The Rose Bar and 5 Rooms Restaurant at The Alphen! Our operator - a well-known restaurateur on the Atlantic Seaboard - wanted to create vibey, gorgeous venues with great service, offerings, ambience and views, 'this side of the mountain'. This was achieved with the popular Rose Bar and 5 Rooms Restaurant, which is well received with both our locals and visitors to the area. We also offer ongoing Specials at 5 Rooms - exceptional dishes at great prices.
Hope to have you back soon!

Enjoyed a few peaceful nights in the Alphen. Had a large room with two bathrooms!
Service at breakfast was somewhat leisurely (but friendly), but we were on holiday

Some rooms looked a little tired, including the pool, however the pool was quiet and the (clean) water welcome in the hot weather.

Outdoor bar / terrace was also enjoyable.

Alphen is a fabulous old Cape Dutch building in a beautiful garden setting. The Rooms are huge almost like mini suites and the cherry on the top is that each room has TWO full bathrooms. The rooms are also very quiet and sound-proof. Although the pool area desperately needs a bit attention it is never overrun with people and located in the well kept gardens. Service is friendly and good and Alphen is directly connected to the motorway and only 10 minutes from the City centre and Waterfront without the noise of the city. We had a fabulous stay, and I can only recommend it.
