“Beautiful Hotel with Great Restaurants”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 November 2012

The hotel is in a beautiful setting with views of Table Mountain from the grounds and a lovely view of the vineyards from the restaurant. The service is excellent, the breakfast is substantial and delicious. There are two restaurants on the property and they are both excellent. Would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Room 12 has a private garden with views of Table Mountain that had lounge chairs and a dining table.

I stayed at the Steenberg Resort Hotel for four weeks on business and cannot overstate just how great the staff, the accommodations and restaurant were 100% of the time. The staff was outstanding and always went the extra mile to take care of me. Similarly, the restaurant was equally great and the wait staff is probably the warmest, most courteous group of people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Well done Steenberg! Keep up the great service!

We took a travel offer through the website Luxury Link which was quite a good deal to stay at Steenberg for two nights including other benefits. We are arrived at the hotel in gale force winds, on pitch black night, so could not see too much, but generally the grounds looked interesting and the hotel entrance looked small but very nice. It is worth mentioning that hotel is located on a lovely mountain slope with fantastic views, but it is also located across the street from the main prison in Cape Town, which as alarming as that sounds, you very rarely see the prison and do not tend to notice, however a word of caution if you were thinking of staying at Steenberg during any political unrest.
We were shown to our room which was Room 3, in a separate building, and the entrance again was very intriguing, with lovely oak panelling and parquet flooring. As the room is part of this separate building, which is a protected listed building, the hotel have been very limited as to how much they can renovate the room. It was a good size with lovely big sash windows, but the furniture was tired, the bathroom (which did not have any windows and no natural light) was very dingy and generally was in need of upgrading.
Breakfast and dinner was served in Catarinas, which is a nice restaurant in another Duth Cape colonial style building, and the food was very good. The service was awful with waiting staff leaning against walls and chatting to each other with little or no interest in serving guests, so meals too a very long time indeed. The wine which Steenberg make is very good and worth tasting. Generally the hotel was ok, I would consider staying there again if the rate was competitive and if they put me in one of their other rooms in the main building, which they informed me have all been refurbished and renovated, and as I would be on vacation the service waiting time in the restaurant would be tolerable. However at their published rates I would consider this hotel somewhat overpriced.

Room Tip: Do not choose room 3. Ask for a refurbished and renovated room.

My fiancé and I stayed at the Steenberg hotel in Capetown in August for 5 days. It was glorious. I really have to say the staff is exemplary beyond measure- they were wonderful. We were celebrating our engagement and they made the stay very special for us. Also, have to note, that they were extremely accommodating in helping us get in and out of Capetown while we were there. Their drivers are exceptionally professional, really outstanding in their professionalism. We travel a lot, and the standard of service was really above and beyond. The reception staff provided ample advice on trips in the surrounding area, which we took advantage of. The food is excellent at the Steenberg, and George’s bar is really lovely to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful view with a glass of bubbly. The spa is also a delight, and there are many little touches, that we noted, that made every day a special experience. We loved every single second of this trip, and we definitely plan to go back to the Steenberg to see more of the beautiful vineyards in Constantia and enjoy this wonderful hotel.

We were guests at the Bistro and chose to eat outside - although it was a little breezy it was very pleasant. The chef made superb efforts to cater for dietary requirements and, accompanied by some exceedingly good Steenberg wine, the lunch was first class. Unfortunately, we had to depart for an afternoon meeting - otherwise coffee on the terrace would have completely finished the whole experience.

This restaurant is top in absolutely everything, location, food, service, price, wine....my only hesitation in giving a rave review about this restaurant is that I don't want it to become too exclusive or crowded! Stay as you Bistro 1682-you are already perfect!

We have just spent 3 nights at the Steenberg estate playing golf. The ambiance is very welcoming in particular with historical interest of the the estate is something special. We are keen golfers and were not disappointed by the course and the facilities including wine tasting which is grown and produced on the estate. The special treat for us was the food served in the Caterinas restuarant which was exceptional best fillet steak meal I have ever had well done Garth.
