On arrival immediately had a swim in their delightful pool. House surrounded by a beautiful and restful garden. Rooms are fine ... Didn't like the computer monitor on the desk doubling as a TV though - room needs a proper TV. Nice touch was the iron and ironing board in the room - hate having to always ask for one. Nice toiletries - not the usual tiny postage stamp soap bar!

Because I feel televisions are so obtrusive in the setting of the historic home, I always opt for the smaller screens, so I'm afraid there is no chance that my brand new Samsung LED flat screen television will be replaced just because it resembles a computer monitor. Sorry! Next time you'll have to watch on the big television in the lounge. Glad you enjoyed your stay, M.

We (5 people) stayed 4 weeks at the fairview. Everything was perfect, the lovely rooms, the breakfast, the garden and especially the hosts! We were sad that we have to leave and go back to Germany! We would come back at any times!!!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Fairview after a long solo drive from Port Elizabeth. The owner Philda was so welcoming it felt as if I was staying with long time friends. The minute I arrived she took me on a tour of the beautifully restored homestead. They were actually not taking in guests as there was a bathroom under renovation in the main house but Philda was more than happy to accommodate me. There is a stunning self-catering unit off the main house which was more than adequate for me. The following morning there was a breakfast table set out for me on the veranda which overlooks the Outeniqua Mountains. The view is breathtaking. Philda went out of her way to spoil me with strawberries from her garden and home made jams and lovely stories of weddings she has hosted at the Homestead. I had a walk around the magnificent gardens which are a passion of her husband. Absolutely without a doubt worth a visit. As for comments that the Homestead is far out of town..... Nothing in George is far. If you are fit and healthy you could walk into town. They are central for all the areas around George ie. Wilderness, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. I would highly recommend this guest house to anyone venturing through the Garden Route.

Room Tip: Room outside very private. There is no fitness centre and I did not have room service so couldn'...

But it is a little far out from the centre of the town. I live in the western cape and george is good for business maters, shopping for things you do not vind in the smaller dorpies and also for medical maters. This was too far out fore. I was told that there is very good and at good prices . I will try that next time.

I do not know which spot in George 'Karldieboer' considers central, but we are less than 4 km from the Garden Route Mall on the Eastern entrance to town and about 5km from the Virgin Active gym on the Western entrance to George ;less than 3km from York Street.

A wedding anniversary was made extra special by our stay in this beautiful, historic homestead filled with art and antiques and the feel of yesteryear. The hostess is warm and welcoming, the breakfasts very satisfying, the garden quite beautiful and of course Juno the bullmastiff is very precious. Will definately make this a frequent stop in our travels.

Room Tip: The 'orange' room is very romantic

We enjoyed our stay, but I think there better BnB's to stay at. The rooms are comfortable and spacious. Our bathroom was minute! I did not think after Paris I would be able to find a smaller bathroom- until now. Breakfast was good.

When we did the restoration on this historic homestead we chose to stay true to the authenticity of the structure and employed the services of an architect specializing in the restoration of historic homes. Of course, unlike with modern homes, when Fairview was built (1864) there were no bathrooms inside the houses at all. The 'minute' bathroom you refer to is actually so cleverly designed that not-withstanding it's size it is accessible for a person in a wheelchair. But by all means I do have to agree that there are many more suitable B&B's in George if the size of the bathroom is important to you.

This is now my third stay here and I would stay at no other B&B in the George area. The welcome from your host and their knowledge of the local area would be enough. Add to this the ambiance of the rooms plus the wonderful breakfasts you will have are all above 4****. Not to mention the Gardens which are a work of art in themselves would be a great disservice. If you want to stay in a wonderful B&B in this area, look no further it is right here....
