“A hidden gem!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 November 2013

We journeyed from George, over the Montague Pass, to arrive at the Herold Vineyard. We were made very welcome and we're given a cellar tour before sitting down to the wine tasting. Nico and his staff could not have been more friendly and accommodating - I have visited a few different vineyards on previous trips to SA, but absolutely nothing comes close to this little gem. The Sauvignon Blanc is superb, the Pinot Noir exquisite - we did not eat eat at the little restaurant, maybe next time :-)

“Stunningly superb sensory experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 September 2013

From the winery, nestled into the lower reaches of the slopes to the wonderful views of the vineyards framed by the mountainous quartzite backdrops, Herold Wines is a stunningly superb sensory experience! The food was beyond unimaginably good (by far the best lasagne I have ever had) and the wine was lovely. Service was fantastic - smiling and friendly staff. Clean neat and tidy establishment. The winery tour was informative. The drive up into the vineyards along with the stunning views from the crags whilst discovering hidden treasures; in addition to the stroll down alongside the vineyards made for an exquisite round-up of the overall experience. Highly recommended!

“Wine & beer tasting with three toddlers”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2013

My Family and I visited this wine farm in the heart of the Outinique mountains. We travelled with our VW Kombi over the Montague pass from George. The owner Nico made us feel very welcome. After our wine tasting presented by the knowledgeable staff, Nico also gave us a sneak preview taste of his new micro brewery, serving a lager and ale. With the tasting of wine and beer we enjoyed a great cheese platter. Our travelling party included three toddlers and the staff accomodated us without missing a step.

“NOT JUST A BUNCH OF GRAPES”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 March 2013

Nestled away in the lee of the Outeniqua Mountains of the Western Cape, South Africa this Vineyard is perhaps the nearest and highest on the South African coast producing an excellent range of wines that are not generally available from run of the mill wine outlets. Of the six wines produced all have a great reputation and the S Blanc is worth going to buy all on its own. NIcko the owner is passionate about his project which is still in its infancy, and made a fist class host with explanations about the wine and the processes that were understandable and NON HIGHBROW. The lunch was also of the highest standard and served by great staff promptly and efficiently. A massive plus is the journey there from the town of George over the Montague or Outeniqua Pass.
