We had dinner here on our first night. The staff were all fantastic. The food was excellent. My husband and I were a bit boring and had the same starter Scallops and the same fillet steak. Perfect!!! Dessert and cheese followed again great all washed down with some delicious wines. This meal was really good value. Will definitely eat here on any future visits.

We booked at Henry White for our first dinner at Fancourt as a treat. The restaurant is set in an old house and has an classic old style dining feel. The staff were attentive and service was good. We all had 3 courses and everyone was happy with their meals. The starting taster and the kiwi sorbet palate cleanser were nice touches. The dishes were pricey as one does expect at this type of restaurant. I suspect that La Cantina with its more reasonably priced and very tasty meals gives Henry White strong competition. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Henry White and would go again for a special occasion.

Thank you for reviewing Henry Whites on TripAdvisor.

Henry Whites is set within The Manor House, at Fancourt, and is a national monument, having been built in 1849. It truly is an exceptional restaurant with a wonderful ambiance and decor. We couldn't be more elated that you enjoyed your time with us.

We look forward to welcoming you back to celebrate your next special occasion.

Warmest wishes,

Coming to South Africa from Australia for a year, we currently working and living in Johannesburg. We’ve been lots of restaurants in Johannesburg, including the top restaurants in Melrose Arch, Sandton. Generally speaking, we found restaurant food in South Africa are double the quantity at half the price comparing to Australia. We also visited and dined at Cape Town, at many beautiful restaurants in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek as well as on the Garden route, but when it comes to the fine dining, we have to say Henry White’s in Fancourt is the only one we found in South Africa so far. The setting, the deco and the ambiance are wonderful, but the most impressive was the food. The menu is not that extensive, but very interesting, the food we ordered were superbly cooked and presented with very intensive flavor. The services were attentive but not intrusive. At the end of the meal, we were able to pay our compliments to and talked to the chef. It was a wonderful dining experience.
The only criticism is that we ordered a bottle of Desiderius Pongracz 2003 from the menu, but we received a bottle of 2008 instead. This should not happen in a restaurant of this category.

Henry is touted as the fan court's fine dining option. While it lives up to this from a service, decor/design perspective the food was quite average. We visited the restaurant at a quiet time of the year and this may have been a factor. A bit on the expensive side, but within the range for this type of restaurant. Unless the food improves I can't really recommend this restaurant.

Thank you for reviewing Henry Whites. We are so sorry that your experience didn’t live up to your expectations.

I have passed your review through to our Executive Chef and Food and Beverage Manager who will look into the food offering at Henry Whites.

We will be closed over the winter months of June and July and will be looking into different concepts for Henry Whites during this time and in August when we reopen it could be a very different place.

We look forward to welcoming you back!

Warmest regards,

Lisa Townend
