We were given an upgraded 'romantic' ground floor room right on the front so it was very easy to see when other whale watchers spotted one, grab the camera and run out. Mid Ocotober and we easily saw several whales each and every day of our 3 day stay.
Room very modern and newly furbished. Has a massive stone bath in the centre and is open plan to the basins and shower - not sure if this is what classifies it as 'romantic' - we are middle aged so maybe we are just 'past it'?
Reception staff always friendly and professional. Breakfast service 1 day was so abysmal as to be laughable, better on next 2 but did make us wonder if hotel was really worth the difference in price to an upmarket B&B.. We liked the central location - safe few steps walking to a variety of restaurants. Decor upmarket, quality and modern, but is it overpriced for what it is?

Room Tip: The three ground floor front rooms have good view and easy access, but other guests/staff walk right...

We arrived in Hermanus on a rainy&windy day at the Harbour Hotel. We got upgraded to a gorgeous open space room with an ocean view.We had room no 5.The room is beautiful modern decorated, with an amazing bathroom &big freestanding bath.Just be careful of the step down to the bathroom part of the room, you barely notice it and I put a towel on the step to notice it. Some people might mind the absence of a cupboard and a safe in the room The WiFi you have to rent from an outside company and that gave us real problems but the staff went out of their way to try to solve this. The location is outstanding and early in the morning we could really see the whales from our bedroom window. Breakfast was a big disappointment: Service was not organized and because of that we were not served for a long time ,when the food eventually arrived it was not up to standard,so I would advise to take a room but eat elsewhere.

Room Tip: We had room 5

I made booking via e-mail and was pleased with the helpfulness of the people I dealt with.

I stayed for 5 nights, which is longer than most people visiting Hermanus, but ideal for my relaxation requirement and to see plenty of whales.

I reserved room 32 whic looks out over the bay ad even from the room's balcony I was able to spot Southern Right Whales in the bay.

The room, which seemed typical of the others, was furnished to a high standard and very comfortable.

I, and others, had problems with the in-room wi-fi. To be fair there was free internet available next to the Spa/Massage area. However as somebody staying longer I was impressed that as a way to speed up my connectivity they provided me with an in-room hub which was connected to the main hotel's broadband link for free access during my stay.

All the hotel staff were helpful and friendly.

Dining options in the hotel were limited, but with so many good restaurants within a few minutes walk it did not matter. Breakfast was "ok, but nothing special".

The pool area also overlooks the bay and has a good number of comfortable sun loungers.

Room Tip: Rooms 5 & 6 look straight out over the bay. Room 32 also has great views as per my photos.

I would like to say a big thank you to the staff espescially the chef Gerrard for taking great care of us at this Hotel. We had 2 nights in October. One we had booked, the other as part of an offer for booking the Waterfront Village. We were in South Africa celebrating our Ruby Wedding Aniversary. We were early arriving and the staff looked after our cases whilst we went out to get lunch and look around the town. We were expecting a basic classic room at the rear of the hotel as we had an offer and were told by the travel agent that we could not upgrade. On return to the Hotel they had upgraded us to a wonderfull room at the front with it's own terrace. They even left us some cake. The breakfast was good and had a really good choice. The staff are the Hotel's greatest asset and nothing was to much trouble. Having booked a restaurant in town one night and on arrival finding out that the Vegetarian meal was pretend meat which I do not eat we returned to ask if they could recommend somewhere else. As we returned the Chef was leaving for the day. Without hesitation he said he would make us a meal. He would not take no for an answer and they re-opened the restaurant, the receptionist brought us some wine and Gerrard cooked us a lovely meal. A very memorable stay, thanks.

Dear Selwyn ,

Thank you for your comments. As the manager of the Hotel for the past 5 years service to our customers is one of my top priorities. I returned from 4 months maternity leave on Monday 22 and can assure you that we have already remedied the situation and we will continuously strive to improve our service levels.

All staff have been retrained, responsibilities allocated and focus on customer satisfaction has been re-introduced. Our service will now match the quality of our lovely rooms.

Location was fantastic, we chose the standard room which was great. Every room comes with a balcony and sea view. We were very pleased that we got to see a whale as soon as we stood on the balcony. We spotted more whales as soon as we left the hotel and took a stole along the coastal path.

Only slight let down was the breakfast service which was probably 3-Star. The reception staff however were fantastic, not only advising us the best place to eat in town but also making a reservation for us, as even though it was a Tuesday the restaurant was extremely popular and we could understand why - La Pentola.

Very happy one night stay. Helpful, friendly staff and fantastic location.

Room Tip: Try and book one of the upper two floors. We had room 20, a second floor corner room

Very cute hotel in a great location. The town is small and the hotel is walking distance to everything. They booked our Shark Diving experience for us and were super helpful. The room was clean, simple and contemporary, with underfloor heating, a lovely big freestanding bathtub and walk in shower, with sea views.

Would defintely recommend as excellent value for money. Our other choice would be "The Marine" a Relais & Chateaux hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed in the main part of the hotel, in the Romantic room, which was lovely!
