We stayed here for two nights after six nights in Cape Town. This was pure relaxation in a lovely calm atmosphere. Staff were excellent and the food was well presented. The only downside in our room was no drawer or shelf space for clothes and we had to live out of our suitcase. This was ok for two nights but any longer would have been very difficult. All in all, a great hotel in a fantastic location. Well worth a visit.

We had read reviews on this hotel before booking a 3 night stay for ourselves and my daughter and son in law. Most were positive so we felt that it would at least be ok. How wrong we were. It was far more than ok, it was fantastic!

The rooms are large with modern furnishings and look terrific. Complimentary wifi was very handy too, although it might be better if the usernames and passwords were valid for the length of our stay rather than having to get new log in details from reception each morning. Still, it was included so no real gripe about this, just a possible service improvement.

Breakfasts were lovely, same as most good hotels.

There are also complimentary push bikes for guests to use, but we didn't take any as Tony had not cleaned the windscreen and topped up the oil (when you meet Tony, you will understand - very funny and great service too).

The pool area was top notch and afforded great views of the bay.

The hotel is just on the periphery of the centre of Hermanus (30 seconds walk) and there are many great places to eat within a 2 to 5 minute leisurely walk.

A great hotel and a great stay, thanks a lot, we will use this hotel again next time we visit Hermanus.

Room Tip: All rooms face the sea, as the hotel is on a point, so rear facing rooms get a different view of the...

We booked through their head office Village and Life in Cape Town. The result: When we arrived at the hotel, they had no booking for us.
Mariane the Manager in charge of the hotel sorted us out and we had a very nice room.
We even stayed one night longer. The hotel is centrally placed, quiet with a beautiful view over the sea. Restaurants, shops and sightseeing’s are in a walking distance. The staffs are efficient, polite, and helpful and they do more than “just work here” bravo and thanks again. The food is fresh, well presented and nicely prepared.
The only thing, we could criticize was the fountain with the fish in it. The water was so dirty, we could not see any fish but apparently the person responsible was on a day off. In our opinion these fishes should be in a bigger natural pond in the garden.
Tipp: Don’t bother to get into contact with Village and Life but book directly with the hotel.
The managers of Village and Life don’t find it courteous and polite to answer our various mails regarding their mismanagement and services.

Room Tip: If you want privacy, avoid the rooms next to the reception on the ground floor.

My Husband and I were booked into Harbour House for 17 nights through Virgin Holidays so we got to know most of the staff and the area pretty well.
All the previous comments say it all, the hotel itself was brilliant, got to be in the best location in Hermanus overlooking the bay. The rooms were very spacious, bright and very comfortable.
We were booked in room 12 for the first week, although it was a beautiful room on the front ground floor of the hotel it was overlooking the car park so we did request to change we were then given room 5 for the rest of the holiday which was fabulous! All open plan with a fabulous view from the balcony.
The staff were lovely, very cheerful and extremely helpful. Breakfast was delicious kept us going all day until evening meals.
Burgundy and Lemon Butta very good restaurants but its best to book in advance.

If you fancy a tour in Cape Town we would highly recommend A Scenic Peninsula day tour on a Chauffer driven Motor trike, our children bought this for us as a surprise and it turned out to be spectacular! we were out most of the day on the trike visiting some beautiful sights of the Cape stopping for a finger lunch and also wine tasting in the afternoon. this can be viewed and booked on www.adventurebookings.co.za. Willem our driver was great! and very knowledgeable.

We also did three days travelling the Garden Route stopping over at Mossle Bay for 2 nights, again! this was brilliant. We ended up somehow turning off the N2 and going up the Robinson Pass which we were pleased about as the views were breath-taking.

All in all it was a fabulous holiday I would definitely recommend the Harbour House Hotel cannot find any faults, we hope to visit again with some friends but next time we may go later in the year as I would have loved to have seen some whales from the balcony, although we did see a school of dolphins when we were walking the cliff walk.

Like to say Hello to all the staff.

Room Tip: 2nd or 3rd floor with Ocean view.

Having left Cape Town behind us we moved on to our next destination, Harbour House Hotel in Hermanus.

We had read all the reviews on Trip Advisor before booking and having stayed there I can only agree with the vast majority of satisfied clients and can understand why Trailfinders send their clients there.

The hotel itself is ideally situated in the centre of town, once you have parked your car you will not need it again until you leave. You can sit on your balcony and people watch, or sea watch. The staff are all friendly and helpful, the breakfast keeps you going the rest of the day, no need for lunch.......Breakfast can be eaten either inside or out, unfortunately the weather was not very co-operative on our stay so we opted to eat inside.

Our room was spacious and looked out over the sea and the square, the finishing touch for me was the toiletries provided, the very same ones that I had forgotten to pack at home, L'Occitane verbena, what can I say (female readers of this review will know what I mean)

.when it comes to dinner you are spoiled for choice. We took the advice of a fellow trip advisor reviewer and ate at the Lemon Butta, really good decision.

We had not realised just how popular it was and on our first night just wandered in thinking it would be easy to get a table, mistake, they were fully booked but they had one party who had not yet arrived and they kindly gave us their table. I apologise to these people if they did eventually turn up but am very thankful that they did not!

The choice of food was good and the food itself was wonderful. This has to be the first time that when they say the fish has been filleted it has, not one bone!!!! On our second day we were taking no chances and called in early in the day to book a table, we said that we had been lucky the night before and the lady who took our booking said that she remembered us from the previous night and was glad that we had wanted to return.

When we ate there that night the owner asked us what we thought of the restaurant and we assured him that we really liked it, and would be recommending it to all and sundry. ps still no bones in the fish!

The cliff walks are really good and if the weather had been better we would have walked round the coast to the beaches, but we still managed to walk quite a distance.

Since it was summer there were unfortunately no whales to be seen, but we did see one dassie all on his own foraging for food.

Would we stay here again? yes

Bearing in mind we did our usual risky strategy arriving in a town without booking first we struck pure gold. This is probably one of the best hotels we've stayed in for some considerable time, it is the stuff of fantasy. Our lovely room (number 5) was quirky, comfortable, well equiped, fabulous view, dear little balcony, superb bath and shower.... I could go on and on we LOVED it and didn't ever want to leave. In fact we said let's just stay for the rest of our lives until the money runs out, flog the lot back home and whittle it away. The staff look after you brilliantly, the attention to detail amazing and it's so clean. The pool area is immaculate, comfortable sunbeds with pristine white towelling covers and further ample towels should you need them. We didn't have dinner at the hotel but I understand they do occasional meals and also barbecues - they lunch every day and the best breakfasts you could ever want. There are so many restaurants within walking distance it is not a problem to stroll out knowing you are coming back to such a glorious retreat. During our stay it was out of Whale season so who knows what Hermanus is like during Sept for a few months (maybe too busy for our taste) as it was March we enjoyed a pleasant buzz about the place without it being too crowded. Apparently the building caught fire in 2010 so it's been almost rebuilt, however they have cleverly retained all the character you could wish for whilst also offering a lovely contemporary feel finished to a high standard. If we come back to South Africa we will most certainly make time for a long stay at The Harbour House Hotel in Hermanus.

Room Tip: We enjoyed being in the older part of the hotel overlooking the ocean, the rooms in the other sectio...

One night turned into three! We enjoyed the location so much that we decided to extend our stay. Thozamile at the front desk went out of his way to make sure that we were accommodated when most of the hotels and guest houses in the area were full. Our room in the main 'house' was spacious and spotlessly clean. The breakfast choice was extensive with plenty of fresh fruit.
