Description: This International award winning destination venue is the most unique restaurant setting in the world. Created out of an authentic, cave previously inhabited by a Koi Strandloper of the same name, the restaurant spills out onto the oceans rocks of Walker Bay in Hermanus, where Whale Watching is the preferred local pass-time. The rustic charm and natural ambiance of the cave and it's surroundings is a delight to all our patrons with many returning year after year to sample the delights of Bientang's Cave. With an abundance of sea and bird life as well as Dassies for company, this exquisite setting is heightened by the freshest seafood and an award winning wine list (Diners Club Diamond Award 2010 to 2013).And, should you be a non-seafood(ie), we offer meat, poultry and vegetarian dishes to satisfy any palate. We are also able to accommodate food allergies and special dietary requirements if pre-informed.Reservations are always advised as our location, quality of food and ambiance attract visitors from across the globe throughout the year... However, should you be passing and the aroma's drag you down our stairs, we do have a cocktail/ oyster bar where guests may enjoy a drink whilst waiting for a table.Bientang's Cave is open daily Lunch: 11:30am to 4 pm.Dinners by prior arrangement. Please note Bientang's Cave prides itself in offering large group functions, corporate events, weddings and other functions.

Dinned here with a group of KLM staff that we had on tour and must admit that we all enjoyed the scenic view, decent service and pleasant food. Life does not get any better when whales are a jumping, the beer and wine is cold and tasty and the food is enjoyable...will return soon..

Was told that a waiter will collect our drinks order while waiting on the lower deck for a table to become available. After 20minutes we had to go up and remind them of our existence. After getting a table it was close to impossible to get a waiter to take our order. During the long wait for our food and having to ask twice for our drinks order the food came with the side (rice) cold. Had to send it back and started the wait all over again. The food was nothing
better than the local fish take-away shop down the road.
Will certainly not return to tbis restaurant.

We apologise for your poor experience at our establishment. Unfortunately trying to accommodate patrons with drinks on the lower deck while waiting for tables our waitrons took strain and some confusion was made with your drinks orders. Thank you for your message and we have since taken the steps to insure the same problems you experienced will not be duplicated.

As a restaurant it is just good, not delicious. However, the location is unforgetable. There are some tables inside the rock, and others on the rock, almost in the sea. It is usually crowded, make reservation.

Bientang was a truly memorable experience for our family. The food was delectable, the sights heavenly and the experience never to be forgotten. The location of the restaurant is a big draw and it was a surreal experience to see the whales frolicking right next to the seated area. We chose Cape Malay sea food curry and a sea food potjie both of which met our expectations. To enjoy a leisurely lunch while watching the whales and some great wine was truly a unique experience we will never forget. I had realised the importance of reserving beforehand and received a very prompt email acknowledgement as well. Truly a must-do experience!!

Fabulous table right on the edge of the ocean, sitting drinking a cocktail with a fantastic plate of fresh seafood watching a whale breaching right in front of us - what more can I say! Other than thank you to our wonderful waiter who was so passionate about conservation and also had to do several trips up and down the stairs with our orders!! Andrea
