stayed there for 3 nights; place is waow, rooms are huge and as we were the only guests we had the common areas for ourselved. Residential location, close to Hermanus golf course but not close to the center / sea. Person in charge is not the owner, you can feel she feels responsible for the house and make sure everything is perfect, so perfect that the house hardly lives. We stayed in many many guesthouses already and this time we simply did not find the warm SA hospitality we are used to.

Thi is a B&B with a "Whow" when we booked we were expecting a nice place to stay. On arrival we were faced with a fantastically modern and cutting edge establishment. I am in the property development business and can assure all that the quality of Selkirk House is of the highest standard. Even befor we left Cape Town , I was contacted by Ina (the guest relations manager) and asked whether she could make any dinner reservations for us in the town. The rooms are very spacious and well appointed. Beautiful bathrooms and general lounges.
Perhaps the greatest thing of all, was the friendliness and hospitality shown by the staff , especially Ina and William ( Chef) we had two great breakfasts and even called our family to join us on the Sunday for breakfast.
All in all a great experience and definitely the best place that we have stayed in in Hermanus.
tip :: stay in the top floor room with the view of Hermanus and the sea from the large balcony.

We stayed 2 nights at Selkirk House to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It is super luxurious - big bedrooms and the layout of the rooms are great. With two lounge areas and a lovely pool area, it felt like we had a huge house to ourselves. Very quiet area, so no noise from cars or people. Good breakfast with a lot of attention to detail. Beautiful modern decor. Our host, William was very hospitable. I was happy that it was not Whale season, so we had a good excuse to remain at the guest house and just chill. No ordinary guest house.

Room Tip: Rooms 4 and 5 are in the same wing which has a common lounge area and a library with a PC. We stayed in Room 5 - the honeymoon suite - this is the bigger room.

Fantastic facilities but really this is a luxury private break away for couples. Well we enjoyed it! Balcony, fantastic modern well decorated bathroom and bedroom. Enough attention to be spoilt but at the same time not over powering. This is a fantastic couples retreat not a stones throw away from whales, fantastic wine and good food. A luxurious and chilled set up while at the same time romantic modern, cosy and decadent all rolled into one! Thumbs up from us! we only left a review on our second stay as scarred of spoiling our own experience.

You may not view the whales from these balconies but believe me if you use this hotel to its full the whales can wait
