My sister and me stayed at Penguino 2 nights, and we could not have made a better choice in Hermanus! Nikki and Stefan welcomed us really friendly at their home and had lots of excellent suggestions for us. Nikki made reservations for us in fantastic restaurants and we could walk there along the cliff path, which runs right next to Penguino. It takes about 20 Minutes to walk to the town centre, and from the path we could also see the Whales. The house seems to be quite new and our room was really nice, with a large bathroom and shower. There is a pool in the courtyard, and we spent an afternoon relaxing in the sun. Breakfast was really delicious, Stefan is an excellent cook and prepared a special every day, in addition to fruit, cereals, cheese, jam and toast. We had French Toast and Blueberry Pancakes - fantastic! The only thing that could be even better: wifi did work only in the breakfast and lounge area and not in our room. But if I would come back to Hermanus, I stayed at Penguino again. When we left to go to the Winelands, Stefan recommended a route to Franschoek to us that was really worth driving a little longer, with spectacular mountain-views - so thanks again for that!

We had 2 rooms out of 4.
Nice, clean, spaceoius and very cosy.
Best of all!, The rock-path and the whales on the other side of the road!
-Oh no, best of all was actually Stefans breakfast and Nikkis and Stefans happy, friendly and engaged service. Kids where welcome, and we appreciated it.

I think Penguino guesthouse is way to low priced compared to what you get.
Go there! You'll love it and keep recommending them just as I do now. Because, they are worth it big time.

We stayed one night at Penguino, stopping in Hermanus in hopes of seeing the whales. Both did not disappoint! It takes only 3 minutes to walk from the front door to the cliff walk (across the street and between two buildings on a path strewn with flowers). We were up at 6:30 a.m. to make that walk, and spent an hour and a half with one or more whales visible most of that time. We returned to the guest house for a delightful breakfast served at 8:00 that started with yogurt, fresh fruit salad, sliced meats, cheese and choice of 3 different juices. The dining area is very elegant with antique tables and chairs and cloth napkins. Then we could choose between the special of the day (ours was french toast) or a basic English breakfast. We were traveling with another couple, and chose to rent the King Penguin room (with a queen bed) and the Little Penguin room (with two twin beds pushed together). These two rooms are adjoining. There are two bathrooms within the adjoining units, but the Little Penguin room's bathroom is across a hallway from the bedroom. The bathroom within the King Penguin room had a big burgundy tub, as well as a shower. Both rooms were very clean and comfortable and we slept well. The beds had duvets, and no top sheets, and this was one of the few places on our trip to South Africa that provided a wash cloth. Stefan has a lively personality and loves to tell stories about his life in South Africa. He booked us a meal at a restaurant downtown as soon as we arrived, and it was very good. We could have stayed a month with all the closet space in our room! The pool area looked very nice, but it was too cool to use it. We also didn't have time to use the lovely living room with comfortable chairs for all the guests to use. Our two rooms were downstairs and totally separate, and it was very quiet, except for the birds that woke with the dawn. Our room also had a great desk and light, and a very good book with local information. We were very comfortable here, and would definitely stay again.

3/4 of our way through our 4 weeks in Africa we dropped into a slice of heaven.I don't want Stefan's head to swell too much, but he and his wife Nikki are the hosts with the most. We stayed 3 nights with traveling companions, and thoroughly enjoyed Stefan's rambling stories about his grandfather, the area, places to visit or walk, restaurant recommendations, etc. He is a trained chef, so to say the breakfasts were very good is an understatement. Each day a different special to select from a long list of choices.
After a day of whale watching, winery tours, great dinners, etc., it was always great to come 'home'.

And the rooms were a bonus. Large, clean, NICE bathroom and shower, and comfortable beds. About a 20 minute walk along gorgeous coastline to the old harbour. (unless you stop to watch the whales).

WOW. Thank you Stefan and Nikki, it was our pleasure to stay!

We stayed two nights here and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms and bathrooms were large and nicely decorated and very clean. The breakfast included cereal, etc. and made to order eggs or the special of the day (pancakes, etc.). It’s located right across the street from the Cliff Walk where you can walk and see whales and the beautiful coastline. The owner went above and beyond to help us with ordering a taxi, food delivery, etc. Highly recommended!

a very warm THANK YOU to Stefan, the owner, for making our stay at Penguino unforgetable:-) We were received with a very warm welcome, and a beautiful room that catered for all our needs. we loved the fact that our children, 2 and 4, were welcomed with opened arms as well!! We enjoyed the fact that we were walking distance from the city centre, especially during the Whale Festival (did not have to try and find parking) And breakfast.... well, that you will have to try when you stay there.. it was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! Masterchef style:-) We loved it, and will reccomend it to everyone. Thank you once again Stefan, hope to see you in the near future x
