Chose this over the arabella and definately the better choice. Everyone in the hotel could answer every question and staff couldn't do enough. Restaurants were great and when commented on how nice a course was the chef brought out handwritten recipes for us. Not cheap but DEFworth the money. Staff were open enough to recommend other restaurants too when we asked and regret missing a place called Bee's Steakhouse. Spa very good - just wish we could stay longer.

This is a lovely hotel and really deserves its 5 star rating. The staff are wonderful, the accomodation was fantastic, the surroundings were fabulous, what more can be said.
The restaurants, bars and town are within easy walking distance and there is plenty to do in the area to suit most peope. Must not forget the whales. We saw lots but they just would not come in to near. Don't blame them but you must take binoculars to take full advantage of the view.

Superb location on the cliff top overlooking Walker Bay. We arrived early and our room was immediately available – in fact we were upgraded to a room with bay view and patio which was stunning as we could watch the whales breaching. Absolutely unforgettable.
The hotel was well appointed and all the staff extremely welcoming and the standard of the two restaurants were excellent. We did however feel that the atmosphere was somewhat “cold” but maybe that was due to the under occupancy at the time of our visit.

If visiting Hermanus we would recommend Ivanhoe Sea Safari’s for an unbelievable whale watching and encounter experience – thank you Jenny from the Marine for your advice. They operate from Gansbaai and these young guys have a wealth of knowledge and respect for their majestic whales. Absolute delight

Spent weekend at Marine for our anniversary. The hotel, service, location, food were excellent. Even managed to see mother and child whale just outside the hotel.

We had the most exceptional stay at The Marine!

The staff were fantastic, friendly and super helpful. The food, in both Seafood and The Pavilion, was exceptional and the setting - right on the coast - was mind blowing. The service, in The Pavilion restaurant, was some of the best I've ever experienced in South Africa. It was personal, it was efficient and they made us feel like the most important people in the whole restaurant. Brilliant!

We spent two glorious days at The Marine and we loved every minute of it. If you're heading out to Hermanus I strongly suggest staying and dining at The Marine. You won't be disappointed. Thanks to everyone at The Marine, we will definitely be back!

The marine is a wonderful hotel.
the service is amazing.
for example i wanted to watch a dvd and the receptionist called someone to go to the dvd store and he rented it for that night for us to watch.
I would definately recommend this hotel to everyone and its also great for kids.

The Marine is simply amazing. From the moment we set foot on this property, we were treated like kings and queens. The front desk personnel are sincere, attentive, and a delight. Our room (second floor corner - see photo) was outstanding. Breakfast each morning was a beautiful buffet (fruits, breads, etc.) along with a complete breakfast menu. We dined in The Seafood at the Marine several times - food is divine. Our waiter was superb and suggested a different wine each night - we were never disappointed! The chef is quite inventive and delivers excellent cuisine and superb presentation. The Malva Pudding is to die for! The cliffs along the coast are wonderful for walks any time of the day - more than one can really take in without catching one's breath. Walker Bay is the home of the Right Whales when they come down in June and July - we were there the end of May and saw a few males in the bay spouting. This is THE best land-based whale watching venue in the world and we now understand why. There is a grassy amphitheater right at the edge of the little town of Hermanus and apparently the whales put on quite a show. A short drive from Hermanus is the area called Franschhoek - a wide valley floor with vineyards as far as the eye can see. South African wines are delightful. Shopping in town was fun - many kiosks and tables by vendors - all vendors were very friendly and not high-pressure. A small mall has many other nice shops too for items made in South Africa. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this trip and would go back in a nanosecond. The country is gorgeous. That, coupled with a fantastic place like The Marine, makes for a trip you will never ever forget!
