usually a great family friendly beach but currently a bit disgruntled by the floods (covered in seaweed and dead trees).

“Blue Flag beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2013

Grotto Beach is a blue flag beach. In the season (school holidays) there is a parking charge of R10 per day. There are sunloungers for hire, a clean ablution block with showers, loos etc. life guards on duty and a restaurant with take-away facilities opposite. Bring your own beach umbrella as there is no shade. Swimming is safe within the flagged boundaries. Dogs are not allowed on the blue flag part of the beach.

“The Beach that was”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 November 2013

Grotto beach is a wonderful long expansive beach. You can walk for miles.
Recommend that you either take a pick-nick basket or lots of water if you intend to go the whole hog and reach the cave on the other side.

Something not a lot of people attempt. But well worth the exercise and effort.
Grotto has had a bit of a blow out so please be careful if you intend to cross the open river mouth at low tide. you wont make it back at high tide.
Keep well

“Good spot for adults with lots of kids”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 November 2013

We were looking for a place where a bunch of adults could relax and get a beverage while being able to keep track of the kids. Grotto Beach, with its wide, expansive and flat beach, fit the bill perfectly as there was a restaurant nearby with an outside patio. A few of us could kick back on the patio while a few others went to the nearby beach to monitor the kids. Everybody happy and safe.

“Great for beach combing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 November 2013

South African beaches are great for beachcombing, especially if you come from far away - what you find will be so different from what you are used to. Fine sand, very clean and a car park right next to the beach.
