This hotel has what is probably an unrivalled ocean view across Walker bay and Hermanus town. My wife and I stayed for three nights and had a first floor room with stunning views. We had a huge room with large double bed, chairs and balcony with comfortable loungers where we could watch the waves crashing against the shore. The room also had a large tv, a fridge, complimentary sherry and port decanters and good size wardrobes. The fridge is fully stocked with beer and water plus fresh milk for tea and coffee. Surprisingly there is no air conditioning and whilst you don’t really need it in the day, at night with the balcony doors shut it can get quite stuffy.

There is no doubt that first floor rooms are both larger and have the best views. The ground floor rooms do not have the same views as there is scrubland in front and hedges which obstruct the view. In whale watching season which runs roughly from October to December you can sit on your balcony and watch the whales come in close.

The staff are friendly and helpful with plenty of information on local sightseeing and where to eat in Hermanus. There is a file in reception with copies of menus of the local restaurants and this is most helpful. The reception staff will happily book restaurants for you and we tried several during our stay. Parking is tight but adequate and benefits from security gated access.

On the ground floor there is a smart and comfortable lounge rather like an English country house and the dining room is adjacent. This looks out over the ocean and borders the pool area. The pool is a good size and has comfortable loungers. Some of the ground floor rooms are beside the pool and this may have privacy implications.

A varied and very good breakfast is served each morning. I had some lovely scrambled egg and smoked salmon. Fruit juice, cereals and fresh fruit is available plus some cheeses and cured meats. These are not always covered and flies buzz round which is not so good.

This is a very comfortable hotel with wonderful views, attentive and helpful staff. A great place to stay.

Room Tip: First floor rooms have the best views

Excellent location by the cliff top path. Large comfortable room, superb view. No aircon. Wifi best in main lounge. Friendly and helpful staff who arranged an evening meal for us at a local restaurant. Good breakfast provided.

The only thing this B&B has going for it is the location on the west cliff overseeing Hermanus bay. The rooms are spacious, but without aircon. Wifi reception in the room and restaurant either is too weak (slow) or none existent. There is no turn-down service despite the relatively high rate (2500 Rand). There is no aircon in public areas either. The pool is very small. Breakfast is OK. Beds are good.

Dear Michael D

Thank you very much for your review.

TripAdvisor is a wonderful platform for guests to write reviews on their experiences at establishments so future clients can read a unbiased review based on their stay. I do however have a problem when it is used in the manner in which you did, so hereby I would like to give our response.

Firstly when you made your reservation you booked a Standard room , you knew the rate was R2240 , which you paid on departure .On arrival we upgraded you , free of charge into a Deluxe room , which is R 2560.00 for two people. You failed to mention that in your review.

You also did not mention that our Housekeeper came to your room for turndown and your were still in your room at 9pm so we could not offer the service to you, as she then went off duty.

The Wifi is free service that we provide, we have one of that fastest in Hermanus, However it is a it is a constant problem , therefore it is free and at the moment only available in the public areas of Ocean Eleven. We are trying to find a solution by installing boosters etc.

Air conditioning is provided in the Suites and we have a portable unit should the heat become unbearable for any of the guests, All the rooms however have ceiling fans. But as you mentioned, our wonderful location on the cliffs we always have a cool sea breeze from the Ocean , so no need for air conditioning in public areas either as we love the atmosphere in the lounge with the doors and windows open with the sound of the waves and the fresh sea air.

We have been open for ten years and have never had a complaint about the swimming pool , I do apologise if the size was not to your liking.
Breakfast is one of the highlights at Ocean Eleven, as you know we have a huge variety of fresh fruit , cereals ,yoghurts freshly baked muffins and croissants, breads, cheeses , meats and then cooked hot breakfast to order , if this was just ok then I do wonder about what you expectations are.

I do hope that I have addressed all your more relevant points. We always strive to keep our guests happy and make their stay a memorable one.

Ocean Eleven was clearly not the type of establishment that you usually stay in, and I really do hope that you enjoy the rest of you stay in South Africa.

Kind regards
Simone

Having come from an over-decorated hotel near Cape Town, it was a relief to this tasty, simple and friendly guesthouse. The views from the balcony are stunning, the rooms very well appointed and the staff helpful. We had to leave early in the morning and they prepared a very good breakfast for us.

Ocean Eleven is a wonderful seaside guest house in an amazing location, offering great amenities, and a warm, professional staff. We recently spent two nights in a Deluxe room (#6), which was large and also had a very private balcony looking out over Walker Bay.

Furnishings are modern and comfortable. Our room contained a very comfortable king-sized bed, a sitting area with two wicker chairs, and the aforementioned balcony with two large, comfortable lounge chairs. A cabinet containing plunger coffee, tea, and hot chocolate also had a tray on top with tumblers of sherry and port, along with a vase of fresh and fragrant lilies -- a very nice touch. The modern appointments were starting to look mildly dated, and there were other things to indicate an update might be in order soon, such as the modestly to moderately corroded hardware throughout the place, which is clearly reflecting the constant assault of salt air from the bay. Additionally, there were some cabinets that had been painted/repainted at some point, with some rather sloppy spots left on the inside doors.

The common area was elegant and comfortable, furnished with traditional overstuffed chairs and couches, and a library of books to browse. It was also the only spot where wi-fi was available, and guests seeking to reconnect with the world could also connect with one another while doing so. A lovely pool outside went unused, as we were told the heater was not working.

The food selection and quality at Ocean Eleven were quite good. The fruit platters were particularly nice, with good selections of both tropical fruits and berries. Muffins were baked on the premises, and were delicious. In addition to the buffet, the kitchen offered eggs, meats, and other standard breakfast fare, with good quality ingredients that were very well prepared.

Service was warm, courteous, and very good. We received good recommendations for beaches, hikes, and suggestions for scenic routes to our next destination. Housekeeping, kitchen, and gardening staff were all top notch.

Wouldn't hesitate to stay at Ocean Eleven again.

Room Tip: Upstairs Deluxe rooms have greater privacy and nicer balconies/decks. The stairs and catwalk leadin...

the guesthouse is located right at the cliff path. unbelievable views.

we occupied the 2bedroom apt. which was spacious and nice. the sofa in the living area was a bit torn, the throw on the loveseat on the lanai dirty and there weren't enough outside chairs for a party of four.

the staff however was very helpful and accommodating and made our stay a pleasant one. we would come back any time.

The staff at the front desk was so friendly and helpful. We didn't have a cell phone that worked in SA, she was able to call and confirm our reservations with the shark diva and whale watching. She went over the top to make sure we were happy.

The views WERE AMAZING!!!! You open the door from your room and WOW what a view.

We saw whales right from the deck while enjoying breakfast. The food was good too.
