This hotel has what is probably an unrivalled ocean view across Walker bay and Hermanus town. My wife and I stayed for three nights and had a first floor room with stunning views. We had a huge room with large double bed, chairs and balcony with comfortable loungers where we could watch the waves crashing against the shore. The room also had a large tv, a fridge, complimentary sherry and port decanters and good size wardrobes. The fridge is fully stocked with beer and water plus fresh milk for tea and coffee. Surprisingly there is no air conditioning and whilst you don’t really need it in the day, at night with the balcony doors shut it can get quite stuffy.
There is no doubt that first floor rooms are both larger and have the best views. The ground floor rooms do not have the same views as there is scrubland in front and hedges which obstruct the view. In whale watching season which runs roughly from October to December you can sit on your balcony and watch the whales come in close.
The staff are friendly and helpful with plenty of information on local sightseeing and where to eat in Hermanus. There is a file in reception with copies of menus of the local restaurants and this is most helpful. The reception staff will happily book restaurants for you and we tried several during our stay. Parking is tight but adequate and benefits from security gated access.
On the ground floor there is a smart and comfortable lounge rather like an English country house and the dining room is adjacent. This looks out over the ocean and borders the pool area. The pool is a good size and has comfortable loungers. Some of the ground floor rooms are beside the pool and this may have privacy implications.
A varied and very good breakfast is served each morning. I had some lovely scrambled egg and smoked salmon. Fruit juice, cereals and fresh fruit is available plus some cheeses and cured meats. These are not always covered and flies buzz round which is not so good.
This is a very comfortable hotel with wonderful views, attentive and helpful staff. A great place to stay.
