One of the best choices during our Honeymoon trip in SA. The Lodge is wonderful, very big and clean rooms, the swimming pool is so cute (unlikely the weather was too cold during our stay).. the location is perfect for the whale watching tour being 20 meters far from the new harbour access, while to reach city centre it takes 5/10 minutes driving. Strongly suggested during the day the Cliff Path walking that will allow You to reach the center in 30 minutes with a splendid view of the bay. Personnel very professional and kind....In Hermanus You have to stop there!!

Stayed at this establishment for one night over a long weekend.

The rooms were clean, very spacious and
well presented.
Heating was well appreciated - it was quite nippy out and the two wall heaters took the crispiness out of the air.
The hot blankets were a treat. Underfloor heating and heated towel racks were available in the bathroom.

The shower was super large and the bathroom had sufficient amenities.
The thermovine soaps and shampoos were great and are available for purchase if you want to take some home.
An evening fire is lit in the bar/ lounge area which was very nice. An honesty bar was available if you felt like having an evening night cap around the fire.

The house manager for the evening (lotte) was very friendly and helpful with local information.

The location is not central like the majority of the hotels but an approximate three to four minute drive to the Main Street.
It was certainly a lot quieter where we were,
and minus the crowds of people.
The walking path is approximately 200meters from the guest house gates and is great to walk alongside the coast if you want to do some whale watching.

The quayside cabin - a local fish eatery is also about 400 meters down the road and made one of the best meals we had during our trip.
The trip advisor reviews did not do that establishment justice. We walked over from
the guest house in the evening and felt very safe.

Overall, a super clean and comfortable stay for the night.

My only gripes are breakfast was OK but the options limited and very "homemade" if that makes sense. Also we did take a last minute booking so the room we had was not very private and opened onto the reception / sitting area.
That being said, there were more private options available had we booked earlier.
Also while reception were happy to assist on arrival, they failed to offer to assist to take the luggage to the car on our departure.

A lovely guest house option. Convenient location, clean and comfortable. I would book at this establishment again.

I am sorry it was not for longer

I rate it on of the best places I have stayed in, the service and attention to detail is fantastic. Wonderful showers, very comfortable rooms and a breakfast that was excellent.
I will definitely be going back and I have no hesitation in recommending that you book.

WHALE ROCK LODGE was exactly as listed and shown - one couldn't wish for a more friendly welcome or staff. I felt right at home and the honour bar was a lovely touch for a solo traveller. Immaculately presented, comfortable and well situated. Excellent breakfast. Definitely will return and have no hesitation to recommend staying here.

Room Tip: I had room 11, which was very private and would be perfect for a romantic getaway.

Just spent a couple of nights at Whale Rock. Great location for Whale watching in the bay! Really beautiful place although really cold! We had 2 rooms and both were very comfortable and beautifully furnished etc. and bathrooms luxurious as well. However, although the main lodge lounge was warmed by a lovely, atmospheric wood burner, the bedrooms were really cold! The small radiator panels did little to ease this once I found out how to turn them on! Not on when we arrived, nor were we shown them! We'd been advised that although we had a fire place in our room, the fire didn't work! It's winter - you should remedy this! Also, the doors were both open to our room on arrival which I think (in hindsight) was to alleviate the slightly musty smell - needs a fire to air properly! Food was very nice for breakfast, but not overly well organised, particularly on second day! If you have to ask for more coffee for one person, you would assume that all would then be offered some and not have to ask again! They also advise of a "turn down" of beds at night - with chocolate. Don't hold your breath! We didn't get this either night, although our daughter was offered on the second night! Staff were friendly but disorganised in general! Nice place but spoilt by cold rooms and lack of organisation!

We are pleased that you enjoyed your complimentary upgrade to our Garden Suite and Distant Sea View rooms. Just a mention that we air all our rooms on days of arrival and the temperature on your day of arrival was a pleasant 19 degrees. However you are visiting South Africa during our winter months and we agree that the evenings are chilly, temperatures ranging between 6-11 degrees. The rooms are equipped with electric blankets and panel heaters to make the rooms more comfortable. However, there was a definite oversight on behalf of the evening staff doing turndown for the two nights of your stay, and my apologies for this. I have addressed the issue with the staff members in question and appreciate you bringing this to my attention. With regards to the fireplace, this is in fact a gas fireplace which has a fault, therefore it could not be used, and we are in the process of sorting this out with the supplier.
I do hope that you will come and visit us again so that you can have a better experience at Whale Rock some time in the near future.
Kind regards,
Melanie Musson
