Great experience, I recommend for anyone to do. The lounge was quite special, with a great view over the elephants sleeping at night. The only negative was that they offer canteen food for dinner, prepared and kept warm - with a mainly 'lunch' menu. We chose to get take away - a little disappointing as it would have been nicer to have some basic but good meals there. You can go out as many times as you wish - so you can spend some quality time with the elephants. Ask the guides lots of questions, they know lots but do not give it up easily!

Room Tip: Choose the cheaper rooms - they is VERY little difference between and the luxury rooms.

We debated whether or not we should stay at the lodge or just visit the elephant park during the day, and we are so happy we chose to do an overnight. Don't expect a full-service hotel with room service or tons of amenities -- the real draw here is the interaction you get with the elephants. The rooms themselves are quite comfortable and a decent size. Our room had windows that allowed us to look down at night at the elephants sleeping. We arrived right as the park was closing and we were able to spend some time petting and playing with the elephants before they were taken to their pens for the night. The on-site restaurant had already closed for the evening, but there are many dining options nearby. The next morning we were taken by the owner to spend some time with the elephants. This was before the park opened and we had the whole place to ourselves. It was interesting to us to learn about each elephant's personality -- very educational for us. This private experience was well worth the price of accommodation for us.

A very nice experience to stay overnight in this park. Excellent, luxurious accomodation. A living room open to the elephant stables, you can sit there and look/listen to them for hours in the evening! The walks with the elephants are very special! Peter, Sofie, Eleni and Felice, Antwerp, Belgium

Hi,
WE recently spent one night at the Knysna Elephant Park Lodge, and are so glad we chose the Lodge, and not in Knysna Township. We did not find a lot to do in Knysna. The Heads, and the Pier area were well worth a visit. Maybe we were looking forward to the Elephants too much !!

Checkin was very well done and the explanation of the afternoon and early morning Elephant walks, were fully explained to us at this time. We were shown around the facilty which included a cafe . Cafe is open for breakfast, lunch but closes at 6.00 pm.We had our breafast at the restaurant, and it was excellent. There is a well price curio shop there also.

Staff were friendly, helpful and very knowlegable when asked about the elephants.

Our room in the Lodge, was very well fitted out, very clean and opened out to a large lounge room which overlooked the elephants, overnight. Decor was Tribal African which suited the
surrounds and our stay.

If staying at the Lodge, please consider dinner at Zinzi restaurant. It is only across the highway from the Lodge. Value is good, and the surrounds beautiful. No need to drive into Knysna for dinner. Staff at Knysna Elephant Park Lodge will make a Booking for you, but I did it online, prior to our stay .

Our experience at the Knysna Elephant Park Lodge was outstanding and one that is very different to a stay in other Lodges. You really get up close and personal to the elephants. We will certainly remeber our stay here, and the beautiful gentle elephants we walked with morning and night.

Would highly recomend a stay at the Knysna Elephant Park Lodge.

After a slightly chaotic and lengthy check in [I wonder if a seperate check-in for lodge guests would be better than mixed in with the 'day-trippers'] we were shown to the lodge via the Restaurant / Cafe. Here we ordered our meal which would be delivered to the room later and with a free choice of meal for our 6yr old daughter.

Then it was off on the sundowner elephant ride with Mom and Dad sat astride an elephant each and our daughter (who wasnt convinced about riding a smaller ellie - more later) strolling along behind chatting to the guide. As the ride can be quite uncomfortable we chose the shorter ride but still had a fantastic time with these fantastic animals and the very knowledgeable and friendly guides.

Back to the lodge for our fantastic 3 course meal (kept warm in a hot cupboard) and an evening watching the elephants in their sleeping quarters from the balcony above.
An early start in the morning and we accompanied the elephants on their sunrise walk and our daughter was comfortable enough to ride back from the waterhole on a smaller ellie. This was followed by an excellent breakfast served in the cafe.

We could then spend time on the 'normal' tour feeding the elephants at the waterhole, and enjoying the rest of our stay. We were provided with a fantastic photo memory (CD £20 +200 photos) of our stay.

As other reviews mention the staff from top to bottom (to numerous to mention by name) were fantastic, and the consideration and attention to detail (time spent with our daughter and the care in arranging her ride), the food was as good as any on our trip, and enough to easily outweigh any minor niggles with administration. Yes it is expensive (I estimate about £450 for the night) but really is a once in a lifetime experience that I would highly recommend.

Thank you to all at the Lodge and continued success with your work in the future.

Room Tip: Family suite was great with self-catering facilities too

We stayed at the lodge for 2 nights, you will be Amazed at the lounge in the lodge over looking the elephants sleeping quarters. even though we were late the first night, the staff still made sure our 11 year old Michael had 10 minutes private feeding time which was so kind and considerate. We all fell in love with the place, we feel privileged to have been able to ride them, feed them and hug them. Dont expect peace and quiet the elephants snore louder than me my wife says. Even though the weather was poor it did not dampen our spirits, the lodge is very comfortable and well equipped. our only tiny negative is would be nice if the company provided a poncho when it rains as tourists dont always have these.
We adored the place and a big thank you to the owner for taking time out to take my Son Michael round early one morning, he never stops talking about the experience and wants to come back and work there when he is old enough.
Dont come to Knysna and not visit this place, words cant do it justice. Thank you

Room Tip: Remember elephants don't sleep quietly it's all part of the experience

The elephants and their guides provided a very special, once in a lifetime, experience. Those gentle giants and their kind shepherds gave me unforgettable memories!
The lodge is fine, just the price is wrong.
This was reflected in us being the only staying guests. It would have been much better to come for the day. Most elephant experiences are not included in the overnight stay price anyway.
