“Could stay here forever....”
Reviewed 4 March 2011

I just fell in love with Forest Edge, the cosy and adorable woodcutter cottages add to the peaceful and relaxing atmosphere , forming such a pretty picture right next to the forest. Forest Edge is so well situated, just a few minutes drive from a couple of beautiful long stretched sandy beaches you can choose from, lagoons and the scenic garden route drive. I loved the privacy couples, or families could enjoy, making you feel that this part of nature belonged to you. The trails are enjoyable, whether you choose to walk or take a bike, there are even fishing spots at the river, if you do not wish to take a drive to the beach. Having an evening meal outdoors and listening to the sounds of the night was most enjoyable, as well as a quick night out to town. The cottages are well equipped, clean and safe. Once you’ve been to Forest Edge, it really makes adjusting back in city life hard to do ….! (Kathleen Munn)

This was our second trip and we definitely made the right decision to return. The accomodation is spotless and very cosy. Ronel has thought of everything for the traveller from European plug adapters to a good selection of light reading and DVD's. Forest Edge is centrally placed to visit a multitude of wonderful places whether it is tame elephants, golden beaches or hikes through the fabulous forest that surrounds the cottages. We still love the donkeys and loved meeting Roxy and will definitely be back again on our next trip to SA.

Firstly thank you to our amazing host Ronel. Everywhere we stayed on this 2 week trip offered us a warm welcome, but I think Ronel gets first prize for being warm, friendly and very informative. The gardens and cottage were lovely, clean and well equipped. I would recommend Forest Edge for a relaxing break for couples or families with young children.

Forest Edge was certainly one of the highlights of our recent holiday. When we booked at Forest Edge we were merely looking for accommodation close to the Goudveld Forest which we wanted to explore - but we got that and a whole lot more. The hospitality was amazing, the accommodation was clean, comfortable, private and heavenly quiet. The walks in the forest and mountainbike trails (which are literally on the doorstep of Forest Edge) are some of best of we have experienced. The area is also rich in history. The majority of Dalene Mathee's book "Circles in a Forest" plays out here. We were very impressed by the professional management of Forest Edge and their strong focus on environmental conservation and sustainable green initiatives. We will be going back to Forest Edge.

We dealt with Ronel Pieterse electronically and she responded to our queries promptly and professionally , normally within 3 hours after having sent a e-mail . After having to drive quite a way down to Knysna we were happy to find that the directions to Forest Edge was spot on . Having arrived at Forest Ronel explained everything we needed to know to make our stay as pleasurable as possible .

On finally driving down to our cottage , the first thought that came to mind was that photos we have seen ; although good , did not do justice to the beauty of seeing the cottages first hand . We walked in to find our honeymoon hamper ready , consisting of scented candles , bubble bath , body cream among some of the well thought of contents that both my wife and I enjoyed .

As we were fully aware that the cottages were self-catering , we thought of bringing some handy items with like mosquito repellent , lighters and the all important barbecue tong . However ; after taking a closer looks to the contents of the kitchen counter drawers , we found that Forest Edge was well equipped with everything we would need for our stay .

When contacting Ronel on occasion via text , she promptly responded within an hour with either a call or by just dropping by . We were also pleasurably surprised at times as Ronel would come by and add touches like a rose on valentines day or just by adding some firelighters to the very reasonably priced fire wood we purchased .

Ronel is also keen to improve Forest edge by happily listening to and making note of constructive criticism and by willing to make helpful changes to the surroundings like the newly added gardens that add to the privacy of the individual cottages . She also knows how to utilize technology like the internet to improve the business and stay miles in front of the competition .

Security was good and theft was never a factor during our stay .

We were so impressed with the cottages that it prompted us to make a short video of it and the surroundings which we will share in due time on Forest Edge's facebook page .

We regrettably only found this gem on the last stopover on our honeymoon. The owner will make you feel at home from the moment you set foot there, she has a knack of taking care of the little things that make your stay there special. We are definitely planning a return to this wonderful establishment to experience all that nature has to offer. If you are not a fan of nature and animals, this place is not for you...
