Spending only one night (pitty !) in the beautiful Knysna Country House, Ypie and Eric welcomed us very nicely and provided us precious informations for visiting around and finding an excellent restaurant ! House and garden are well kept situated in a calm area...Our room was large and confortable, and we enjoyed an excellent breakfast; We do regret our very short stay in Knysna and hope to return there again, the area is just fantastic !

We had the most amazing stay with Ypie and Eric, who were the perfect hosts - more like staying with friends. A lovely house in a gorgeous setting overlooking the countryside surrounding knysna. Ypie gave us lots of suggestions for places to visit and local restaurants - I just wish our stay could have been longer! I would highly recommend a stay.

We booked this KCH through internet well in advance of our trip as we liked the reviews on Trip Advisor. We reached fairly late at Knysna as we had planned to take diversions on the Garden Route to make best of our ride in a good car provided by Budget.com. We really had a fantastic time through Grabouw, Franschhoek and Paarl stopping over at numerous locations to absorb the beauty of the country side. We reached at 2130h local time and were met by our gracious hosts Yipie and Eric, who were kind enough to help us with our luggage and settling down. Our late arrival also invited a remark from Eric just like 'gaylenedonner', which I found odd. Our stay at KCH was comfortable, family room was decent, though a bit small, lacking maneuver space even around the bed. The common toilet, which was excellently equipped, for two bedrooms was not a comfortable arrangement and we hoped for independent toilets. The common room was very frugally furnished and felt it could be better. The old model TV had only a few channels The breakfast was adequate and my family was satisfied with the menu. The hosts are dog lovers, as they own many pets but my people were uncomfortable with their moving around the dinning table. The hosts would do well in keeping their pets off the premises as not every one is fond of them. Eric & Yipie were very helpful in advising us in our plans for a local tour and were proactive in helping us get some boats at the Lagoon. Overall, our stay was value for money. I had a look at the other rooms before departure and found them to be much better furnished. So, I will recommend this hotel for anyone to stay in standard and luxury rooms.

Room Tip: Luxury rooms with balcony are excellent. Family room can be avoided and two standard/ luxury rooms would be a better option.

Our one night stay was after a long, windy and wet drive with several long delays due to road works,of course not the hotel's fault.
Our room was large, clean but a bit sparsely furnished. It was coldish and the one electric panel not really adequate for the size of room.
The staff were very welcoming and we had a very good meal in the restaurant. That was lovely and warm.We had to leave early but had an excellent breakfast and again the staff were very good..
Am sure on a better the grounds are really nice and it is in a quiet location on the edge of town.
Loved the owners response to a visitor who complained of noisy people on their tour at breakfast-see earlier review.

Room Tip: Some reviewers complained of traffic noise-due to its location I have difficulty in knowing where it came from.Very silent in our room.

The location of the house is excellent - away from the busy waterfront town area and on the hill above the golf course so it is quiet and peaceful. However, we found Erik to be a bit overbearing, greeting us with a scolding for arriving an hour after the 5pm arrival time that I had been asked to provide ( via email a full month before our check-in date!). We had drove from Port Elizabeth and not being familiar with the road and left-hand driving and not having an international phone with us, we thought that we had done quite well on our first day navigating in South Africa.
The room was large and comfortable but the bathroom was a step up from the sleeping area and the door would not stay open. This was a bit dangerous in the dark to navigate round and there was no night light to assist. The breakfast was nice but as other reviews mentioned, there wasn't a great deal of choice in the buffet options or cooked entree. The kitchen help did a very nice job with the cooking and the coffee was good.
It was a bit uneasy to see motion detectors and what looked like a camera set up in the hallways and even in our room. Is that really necessary? We felt like we were being monitored as intruders not as the guests.

Dear Gayledonner,

Please do not misinform the public. You arrived at 8 pm. 3 hours after 5 pm, our reception is open till 7 pm. The road from PE to Knysna is a good national road (the N2) and you cannot blame it on the road or your driving for a 3 hour delay.

We have noticed that the English speaking community in this world (UK and US) seems to find our breakfast lacking of 'cooked' items. We still prepare eggs to order with bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes and every day there is are e.g muffins, flapjacks or scones on the buffet. And our European guests really love the choice of cheeses, meats, breads and Ypie's fruit salad, freshly cut every day. And our coffee is also not too bad.

We upgraded you from a standard to a spacious luxury room, but that indeed has a step up bathroom. You do have bed side lamps that gives enough light in that room to see where you are going. And to suggest that we have placed cameras in the room......... we do not even want to go there.

Kind regards,
Ypie and Erik
