Unmarked from the side from which it is normally approached, and unremarkable once inside!

An average menu, all the regulars, perhaps not enough of a fish selection for a waterside restaurant.
Service a bit sloppy, but friendly. Wine bottle brought to table, but not opened, no tasting!
Ice bucket had to be requested.
Waitress drifted past the table sometimes - had 3 different waiters during the evening.

A great setting that could be so much more with a bit of enthusiasm and imagination.

Tried Cruise Café for dinner. The overall décor and ambience was very pleasant and spotlessly clean. I ordered a simple fish and chips with a home made tartar sauce. While waiting on my food, I also ordered a glass of pinotage. At 47 rand for a glass of everyday pinotage, I was appalled! This is excessive! My food arrived. The chips were luke warm and soggy and those thin offerings that one would expect to find at a fast food restaurant. The home made tartar sauce was more on the lies of a watered down cole slaw. The fish tasted burnt and had been seriously overcooked. The fish had been obviously frozen, as it had that bland soft texture that turned to mush. It was also looking a little grey beneath the batter. Grey fish is bad fish! It was inedible, so I immediately sent it back. A few minutes later, the waitress brought me a replacement which she sad had been taken from someone else's order. Same burnt taste, (this burnt taste I deduced was caused by using oil which should have been changed in the fryer long ago) although this time the fish had not been overcooked. However, it still came from frozen stock and the chips were soggy and luke warm again. Once again I sent this back as being totally unacceptable. The manager was summoned and we had a long talk about the problem. He handled the complaint well and apologised profusely assuring me that something would be done to rectify the issue. He took my telephone number and promised he would get back to me. I am still waiting! I'm sorry Cruise Café, this experience was unacceptable, and I will not be in a hurry to return. It is such a shame that a restaurant which is something of a hub on Knysna Lagoon should give such poor food and seriously overcharge for wines. This affects the reputation of Knysna as a whole in the eye of the visitor, and gives the impression that all the town wants is to relieve the diner of as much money as possible with no regard for them returning again.

Dear GentlemanAtLarge

Your comments have been noted. We apologise for not contacting you immediately and would like to invite you to join us for a complimentary fish and chips so we can discuss your points of concern. Please contact me personally on sales@featherbed.co.za to make a booking.

We would like to also note that at least 5 other tables ordered the fish and chips at the same time and they all complimented the meals. We truly value your opinions however we feel tat the Beyerskloof Pinotage is, in our opinion, not an everyday wine and we do offer more affordable wines on our menu.

We are looking forward to treating you to some freshly prepared fish and chips.

This restaurant is just stunning - stunning views, stunning wait staff and the fish and calamari were the best we had on our 3 week trip in SA. The service was friendly, timely and attentive without being invasive or unprofessional. Well done! Go Knysna!!!

Two times we were here for dinner outside at the lagoon. We enjoyed the wonderful scenery and the delicous fresh food. We had marvelous prawns as starter, yummy grilled squid with chips and tasty fried hake the first time. The second evening we had the squid again and also a fantastic fish curry as main dishes accompanied by local beer. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The scenery is quiet and lovely. A wonderful place at the end of the day!

Cruize café is casual, spacious and situated on the edge of the Knysna Lagoon. There is a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere. One has the option to sit inside or outside. A varied menu is available with some interesting vegetarian options. The lentil bobotie was excellent. The service was good and prices reasonable.
