“Good pub food, slow service”
Reviewed 2 April 2014

We visit The Bell frequently, as it is less than a kilometer from our house in Belvidere Estate. The food is generally good for a pub, but is sourced from a kitchen in the nearby hotel and not made on the pub premises, which seems to be the main reason for the usually long delay between order and arrival of food. The staff is generally pleasant and efficient, and not to blame for the time taken for food to arrive. Overall, it is certainly worth visiting for a better than average pub meal, as long as one is not looking for a quick bite and go place.

“Disappointed!”
Reviewed 12 March 2014

We looked forward to eating at The Bell after reserving a table. Sunday evening was very busy with the staff dashing to and fro from the kitchens across the way. They had run out of certain dishes and we waited nearly one hour for our meal which was disappointing. Staff tried to be pleasant but they looked very tired and that is not what we had paid for. We obviously chose the wrong time but........ I would not recommend it.

“Very Average - wouldn't recommend it”
Reviewed 26 February 2014

Just had a slight lunch - a "burger" x 2. Not particularly good food, service not great. The hotel however looks a really interesting and pleasant place to stay and the young lady on reception was charming and very helpful.
They need to sort the "Pub" out, prices were the same as everywhere else put the food and service were below par.
Surroundings very pleasant and interesting ......... pity about The Pub

“Great Food, service not so good”
Reviewed 22 February 2014 via mobile

Ate here a few nights ago, nice warm evening, tables outside full so sat inside.
Nice waitress took drinks order, brought nice draught lager and G&Ts!
That's when it all went pear shaped. Ordered a bottle of wine, wrong bottle appeared, already opened. Sent it back. Food came, wrong order for one of us, sent it back. All this after a long wait for the food to appear. Desserts took as long again to arrive. The bill included charge for a 260 rand bottle of wine, the one we'd had was 140 rand! All sorted out eventually, but made to feel like criminals for querying bill.
On the plus side the food was good, my steak in particular was excellent.
If I lived in the area I would not be hurrying back.

“Felt as if there was no need to try too hard”
Reviewed 17 February 2014

Had lunch here on a weekday, it was not busy but we still had to wait a long time. The food was ok but would not rush back.
