Owner description: Visit Pledge Nature Reserve in the heart of Knysna to view indigenous plants to the area and some history. Before Knysna was officially named a town, it was made up of small settlements, one of which was Newhaven, just east of today’s Long Street – the lo g straight roadthat bisects the town and runs down to Thesen Island.

A self-guided garden tour on the hill above town provides a splendid opportunity to savor the diversity of fynbos flora on a perfectly personal scale.

Right in town, this is a delightful reserve with rich flora and a wonderful view of the lagoon and Heads from the top of the trail.

“Peaceful oasis”
Reviewed 18 January 2012

Pledge Nature Reserve is a little pocket of paradise in the heart of town, where you can go to escape the bustle and noise. There are quite a few meandering trails - don't miss the one that leads up to the lookout point. All the trails are easy and dogs (on leashes) are allowed in the reserve as well.

“A little piece of paradise in the middle of town”
Reviewed 19 November 2011

Pledge Park is lovely peaceful tranquil park in the middle of Knysna. It is a place to escape from the crowds and find some quietness.
There are cool covered malls through the forest area with many places to sit and rest or even have a picnic. Next to the pond are tables to sit around in the company of a rich and diverse bird life.
Sometimes I have seen little bunnies running for cover - and I am told there are even small buck here.
It is a safe place to walk at any time of the year. The park is closed between 5 PM and 8 AM
