We have been to Buffalo Bay on a number of occasions (we are lucky to have access to an 8 bedroom house right on the beachfront). The beach is beautiful, never too crowded and has some fantastic waves as well as being clear and clean. The one disappointment, i feel, is the small shop/bar/eatery on the deck by the sea. It is all owned by the same person and apparently his attitude is "I dont care if you dont like it, i will be busy anyway!" The reason i feel this is the attitude is the fact me, my wife and our brother and sister went to the deck to eat and have a few drinks upon a long drive from cape town, when we arrived there were only 3 other tables and 6 waitrons. Perfect you would think but the waitrons all sat down drinking coke or whatever and didnt move to help anyone until we went and asked them for service. (they had all seen us sitting there). Upon requesting drinks and menus, we were looked upon as if we had just asked them to lick our feet, the food is of a very poor quality but i guess they know they are 14kms in either direction from Knysna or Sedgefield so you are kind of trapped. I went to the shop on another occasion there and asked for a "Grandpa powder" for a headache, the cashier then said it was 8 rand, not a huge sum of money at all but when i explained they were only 1 rand in cape town she promptly said "go back to cape town and buy it then!". We met other friends there we knew from Cape town and decided to go for a few drinks at the bar, we stood over 25 minutes at an empty bar waiting for service while approx. 10 members of staff sat around or hung around by the till, when we asked for a barman we constantly got told "he's coming now". We never complained to them, we were always a jovial crowd and were in a holiday mood and we would have tipped very well but they are the worst staff i have ever seen in all respects and the chap that owns the shop there really wants to exploit his captive audiences by charging extremely high prices for the the most basic goods, which i might add, are all of the low quality you would find in a Congolese cash 'n' carry. (No offence to the DRC)
After all is said and done, the beach and the community atmosphere there is perfect and very safe for children, clean and relaxing. the only blemish there is the business owner, if someone could purchase that place from him and put some real staff in there it would be a veritable goldmine and Buffalo bay would have the whole package
