I've actually lost count of the number of times we've stayed here., but it's probably in double numbers now. Knysna, and particularly Leisure Isle is a place we always bring visiting overseas friends - and Turning Tides is where we always stay.

Ian and Joan are caring, delightful people who look after their guests exceptionally well, but are never intrusive. Their breakfasts are a triumph - never refuse a muffin, you'll regret it!

Their rooms are large, two have an interconnecting balcony - great for going with friends, but easily transformed into 2 separate spaces - beds are exceptionally comfortable and large. Debbie keeps the rooms in tip top condition.

Bird lovers will be in 7th Heaven as when the tide comes in to the wetland, so do the water birds.
It's ideal for those who want a walk before breakfast (not compulsory but recommended!) as there's a wonderful circular walk from the Wetlands to the sea and back again.

There is also a very good restaurant within 5 minutes, and others in the town itself, a 7-8 minute drive.

Oh, and Joan makes a wonderful fruit cake too!!

Room Tip: Ask them for the room Sue and Rob have!!

We were made to feel most welcome and at home by the friendly reception from Ian our host. He gave first class advise about Leisure Isle and the local restaurants. The room was most comfortable, the Wi Fi easily accessible and facilities and beverages to our needs. Joan made sure the breakfast was well presented, tasty and more than we needed. The marmalade and jam were homemade and delicious. Location is superb and ideal for a quiet stay. Strongly recommended. We will return.

As soon as we arrived, and I saw the big balcony, I knew there was going to be trouble. I wasn't going to want to leave after just three nights, that balcony deserved at least six weeks!

Our hosts served home-made fruit cake and tea to welcome us, and chatted about what we wanted to do during our stay. They have a wide selection of brochures on activities in the area. They make a wonderful breakfast cooked to order every morning, which includes home-made marmalade and jam. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. We were not travelling with children but the place really is child-friendly, with a special cupboard of toys and games that some young visitors from abroad greatly enjoyed. The location is incredible and we loved walking around the island.

There is a fridge and microwave available for those who want to buy pre-made meals rather than eat at restaurants, and fresh milk is provided in the fridge as well.

We have loved our stays at Turning Tides, making it the go to spot when we visit Knysna! We are so thankful to Joan and Ian for a wonderful experience, beautiful food, wonderful suggestions on places to go, and for even organizing for us to visit some of the local schools!! They are wonderful people and deserve all the business they can get! Can't wait to come back and see them again soon!

Great stay, with tremendous hosts. What tremendous times!
Location is very good, on Leisure Isle. 3 minutes to the beach, lots of space for the kids, good restaurants nearby. Bliss!
Would gladly return - and have done many, many times...
