Comfortable beds, very peaceful, facing lagoon. Nice bathroom & lovely products. Secure parking. Excellent breakfast. Good pool. Free use of internet. Good location. Plenty of restaurants nearby - our favourite was 34 degrees south. Some shop at marina to look around and only minutes to walk to old part. Footpath around part of lagoon for a good walk. Enjoyed walking on amazing beach at Brenton on Sea.

Simply Awesome! The best place visited till date. Located in the Garden Route. HAs one of the best climate and can be described as an ideal retirement house for any nature lover. The Hotel Protea is located on the harbour and has a direct access to the port. Simple interiors but well furnished and equipped.

Stayed for 4 nights earlier in Feb. Could have been a great anticlimax having just spent a week in the 5 star Mont Rochelle in Franschhoek. But it was absolutely fine. Really more a good 3 star hotel than a 4 star, like the Novotels in France, standard formula rooms but very comfortable and clean modern rooms and an airy Lobby. Superior room had a small balcony with view over the marina and the lagoon. Also had 2 double beds. Could have done without one of them so that there was room to move about and maybe a second armchair. Excellent pool ( by SA standards) with good service from the bar staff and comfortable loungers. Opens straight on to the Quays- the main tourist hub of the town. One tip for you- ignore all the formulaic seafood restaurants on the Quay ( more like Southend than South Africa) . Instead turn right at the quay as you walk out the back of the Hotel and walk for 4 or 5 minutes to the Cruise Cafe, a really lovely simple restaurant with a lovely position on the waterfront and delightful staff. We went 3 times.

Positives: The central but lagoonside location can't be beaten. Breakfast comprehensive and good for the hotel class.
Negatives: Room a bit cluttered owing to extra bed. I'd have been a bit pissed off if I'd had a car park facing room. Apart from the views, Knysna doesn't have much else to commend it.

hotel right at the waterfront, brill location and lovely restaurants 2 min walk away so feel really secure. we had not booked and we got a room no problem and we asked for the best deal and got a good reduction!!!!

large room with all the usual facilities, bath and shower which is good. we didnt park the car at the hotel but left it at the quay and it was fine!!! breakfast included and it had everything and anything that you would need but as in most of SA staff in no major rush.

we ended up staying 5 nights because we liked it so much, we relaxed by the pool for a couple of days (loungers and towels provided and lots of them) and explored the area too, felt really safe here and hotel gave you free internet vouchers to use all the time.

The hotel did not feel busy while we were there but would def return

This hotel is located literally on the knysna quays. Very popular with travel groups and business people. Rooms are well appointed, there was supposed to be free wi-fi however the service was having trouble while we were there. There are internet stations on each floor.

Rooms are well appointed and expected of a good hotel chain. The bathroom had both a tub and shower, small TV in the room, and nice desk and adequate closet facilities. There is a safe (but would not recommend it, we got money stolen from our safe actually). If you have valuables, lock it up or bring it with you or see if the hotel has a safety deposit box which they do.

Breakfast was included in our room rate, and the buffet was fabulous with home made omlettes, fresh fruit spreads, and pretty much anything imaginable. The quay is literally behind the hotel and there are tons of restaurants and shops. This made a very nice launching point for further exploration of the garden route.

Outside of the safe and cash being stolen, i would recommend this hotel. I would also make sure you try firefly the restaurant in knysna ... while the service is a bit flustered, the food is fabulous.

Parking they do charge 25 Rand/day and while there probably is off-street parking and even parking across from the hotel in an abandoned train station .. would recommend forking it out as safety is always an issue throughout s. africa.
