“Hidden Gem”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

This open air establishment is tucked away from the main thoroughfare and is easy to miss if you don't know exactly where it is. A floor of beach sand and a tent like roof make for a very casual atmosphere but if the wind is blowing or it is raining then choose another venue. The food, all fish, cannot be fresher and the choice pretty varied depending on what has been caught that day. As it also a working retail fishery you can see what they have on offer and very often see what they are unloading from the boats. The fish is prepared in a number of ways including on an open braai (barbecue). Seared tuna done this way is exceptional. Prices are very reasonable, service is slick and as they are not licensed your overall bill will not hurt the wallet.

“Great food but.....”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

Three of us dined on a quiet afternoon. Each had the Cob which was perfectly cooked! Service was also great but, a couple of words of warning......We were asked if we wanted chips or rice with the fish. Two of us had the chips and one the rice. When the bill came, our rice, about a mugfull, was priced at 30 Rand. The chips were not so expensive at 20 Rand per portion but, when added to the price of the fish, Freshline is not as cheap as it was. Fish and chips is readily available in Knysna for 100 Rand. Chips are usually included in the price of the fish and not charged extra.

Also, over one half of the outdoor restaurant had a very strong smell of rotting fish. We had to move well away. Sadly, if the breeze comes from the wrong direction, the odour travels from the rubbish bins which are out of sight but sadly not out of smell :)

“As good as it gets”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

Wonderful food, great ambience and reasonably priced. Sitting beneath the stars with a log fire and a tray of embers to keep us warm and well cooked fresh fish. Simple, non pretentious and friendly. We will be back.

“When in Knysna”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

What is not to love about Freshline fisheries? Great and friendly service, and the fish...MADRE MIA (or in other words: food so good, fresh and tasty you want to kiss your mamma). What a value for money. Just make sure to get there before closing time, and bring your own wine. No corkage fee.

“The West Coast comes to Knysna!”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

What a surprise to find a real West Coast fish braai in Knysna! We had a wonderful lunch there, with fish very tastefully prepared - snoek, baby kingklip, scallops - plus all the delicious sides. A great addition to the Knysna fish / seafood offering and very authentic. Highly recommended
