Exclusive, luxurious and secluded forest lodge accommodation. Staff friendly and attentive. Meals excellent, food of highest quality and beautifully presented. Loved the spa treatments that were on offer. Would definitely return.

The hotel is absolutely gorgeous and is designed with perfection. The rooms are named and give an absolutely private feel with a gorgeous view and a jacuzzi outside in the open under the stars. Te food however; the 6 course dinner is pretty bad for someone who is from Asia i guess cause i tried all kinds of things in all my travels in 16 countries but never been more disappointed with all 6 courses. And the staff would not even bother to ask whats wrong even tho i returned each course untouched. They definitely need to improve the service n food however the tree houses are absolutely to die for.

Like any other negative criticism of Phantom Forest we do take this very seriously!
Your selection from our award winning cuisine (which changes daily) for this night was as follows .......

Curried butternut soup with vanilla toasted pumpkin seeds.
Starter ~ Moroccan spiced venison Carpaccio with minted melon salsa and sumac oil
Granadilla, pomegranate, lemongrass and berry sorbet
Main ~ Springbok with sweet potato, caramelized red cabbage, herb butter, mange tout
and red wine jus
Cumin boerenkaas with pineapple chutney and oven dried fruit crisps
Desert ~ Nougatina with roast figs, rose and quince paste cream, vanilla hazelnut syrup
and date and plum ice cream

We are contacting other diners on this particular evening for comments on their dining experience at Phantom Forest as well as a staff report for the night.

We are sorry that you did not enjoy our cuisine and thank you for this feedback.

We look forward to hosting you again in the future!

Food was delicious, location is great, rooms are immaculate, the view on the laguna is amazing and the staff is perfectly nice. If you can afford it, just go without hesitation. A great experience in South Africa.

Our honeymoon to SA was amazing in so many different ways, my husband and I loved the country, the people, the food, the beauty. We were lucky enough to spend one night at the Phontom Forest Eco-Reserve and this was definitely one of our highlights. Delightful tree-top accommodation, lovely 6-course dinner (yes in the tree-top restaurant!) and delicious breakfast as well. We loved the indoor/outdoor shower (inside the tree house, but surrounded by glass) and the funky bar area, plus the great views across Knysna.

We'll be staying along the garden route during Easter and wanted to book a table for one night at The Boma over a period of 10 days. I first inquired via phone and after all my details was taken I was advise to email. Upon further inquiring I was told that yes they do still have tables available over this period, however they will not confirm any outside reservation until 11 am on the day of the reservation, the reason being "the Lodge may very well full up...".

If you want to only dine at Phantom Forest, suggest you go and eat at one of the many other great restaurants in Knysna

Hi Louanne

We are sorry that you did not take the opportunity to dine in our award winning boma for the night. Unfortunately, because of the size and privacy of our restaurant, we can only confirm outside dinner reservations on the particular day, due to tables being reserved for our in-house guests.
We do hope that you will try once again in the future to secure a table so that we can share the Phantom experience with you!

Regards, the Phantom team!

We only stayed one night, but we really made the most of it. We went mountain biking, had a refreshing swim in the pool and had an early morning hike along the forest trail on the premises. Do yourself a favour and arrive hungry, as dinner is a 6 course feast! And it is best to do the forest trail before breakfast so that you can come back and enjoy yet another feast.
