“A lovely afternoon trip, enjoyable boat trip and walk”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

This was a really pleasant way to spend one of our afternoons in Knysna. You start with a nice boat trip with commentary across the lagoon and then are taken to the top of the Reserve by a jeep/trailer - quite bumpy at times but good fun! The guide then led us back down to the landing point, giving us the opportunity on the way to climb to a hilltop viewpoint (she said it was steep and rocky but it wasn't particularly either and anyway only took a few minutes to get there!) - the views were well worth it - and also to go down to some sea caves (definitely worth the 120 steps each way, as it is very atmospheric as well as a great close encounter with crashing waves!). The walk generally is not difficult and very enjoyable as there are some great plants and views as you go along, but although we did hear signs of life we didn't see any animals or birds at all.
We didn't eat anything on our trip but did have reasonably priced drinks at the end; there is also a small, but quite good, shop.

Dear Merrowmum

Thank you for your complimentary comments. We do always rather advise that it is steep and rocky for safety measures however we are so pleased that you found it comfortable and worth doing the whole hog!!

“Beautiful and very relaxing”

We took the tour that takes you to the top of the mountain and then to the restaurant where the food is delicious. All African specialties. The tour guide was very good.

“A Pleasant Walk”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

It's a nice boat trip to the Reserve followed by an interesting cart ride to the top. After that it's a pleasant walk downhill through the forest, followed by lunch. There's little more than that. We saw none of the Blue Duiker- or for that matter any other wildlife- we were expecting. You get good views of the Knysna Heads on your way down but nothing better than from the viewpoint on the Eastern Head.

Dear Nirmalya KE

Thank you for your review. Please remember that we are a nature reserve and NOT a game reserve so we do not advertise the viewing of wildlife but rather the Natural beauty of the reserve and surrounds.

“letting 7 people down”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

When we (family of 4) signed up for the excursion to Featherbed Nature Reserve we were told that so far they only had 7 in total and that there would be no excursion unless 3 more signed up.
So they rather let 7 people down instead of making 7x345 SAR = 2415 SAR (about €170, $230). Very customer unfriendly! Even in low season there are tourists who want to explore. Very disappointing!!

Dear Karlien K

We regret reading your review. We do operate all our tours based on a minimum number of 10 passengers. I am sure you will understand that it makes no business sense to run our business at a loss and therefore the requirement is to cover our costs. Our staff did inform you of this requirement at the time of your booking.

Please understand that we would prefer everyone exploring with us but also have to have procedures in place to sustain the business.

We trust you will understand.
