“In two minds about this property”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 June 2014

We were booked into this property by our travel agent and since we were travelling by hire car we did not mind that it was well outside Knysna township. It looked to be a nicely kept establishment, with pleasant internal views, however it did not match up to the description provided by our agent. Points in favour were the lovely staff in the restaurant, the shop, laundry service, the staff on the hospitality desk and the fact that they allowed us to upload photos on the computer there. Disappointments were the facilities in the room (lighting, phone to reception, proper compendium of services), the loud noise made by workers and guests on the gravel pathways early in the mornings but worst of all the terrible and totally unexpected noise of traffic roaring along to a nearby school also in the mornings, which shocked us awake on the first morning and was frustratingly familiar from then on.

Room Tip: Ask if it backs on to the road behind the estate running to the school and don't accept it if it...

Thank you very much for taking the time to let us know about your recent stay with us at Knysna Hollow - we are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the service from our staff and are obviously disappointed about the disturbances you experienced from guests, staff and traffic noise during your stay. We do our best to try and minimise the impact of noise on the property caused by some guests leaving earlier than others and unfortunately have no control over the movements of traffic around our hotel at certain times of the day. We trust this did not impact on your stay too much. With kind regards from Clive and the Knysna Hollow Team.

Absolutely gorgeous, only booked in for one night as stop there along our trip down garden route. Wish we had booked in for a week. Accommodation set around swimming pools, we were going to do some sight seeing in knysna, but could not leave. Enjoyed the day by the pool instead, enjoyed a relaxing day by poolside, (even had lunch brought to you.), while kids swam and had fun. Absolute bliss. Highly recommended.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights on our tour of South Africa with THompson's Africa. We stayed in Lodge 10 in a lovely large bedroom and bathroom. The lodge was well maintained with nice furnishings. Breakfasts and dinners were very good, though no sugar free preserves available. There was a limited hospitality tray. The lodges were cold, but an open fire with logs to burn is provided. The bar area is good to sit and chat in, but drinks are on the expensive side for South Africa.

I was booked in here by my agent on my way back from Port Elizabeth. On arrival I found the staff at reception to be very friendly and helpful. In the evening I had a wonderful dinner and again, the staff was good.

My room was very basic but comfortable.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to travellers.

The hotel is set in lovely grounds with bungalow style rooms. We found our room to be very comfortable and spacious. The rooms are set around the pools which are beautiful, if somewhat cold! Our only complaint was that our room was close to the road and it was a little noisy first thing in the morning.

The food at this hotel was excellent. The service was very good too. There was an extensive wine list and drinks were extremely reasonable. The wifi was efficient and available in the room.

We we're supposed to stay here 2 nights. From the outside it looked all nice. The receptionist was nice and competent. Then we got in our room/lodge. There was an incredible stench of mould and damp air. We thought maybe the room hasn't been used for a while so we gave it time to ventilate and it the mean while we went in to knysna. After coming back the mouldy smell as still there. As we wanted to lay in the bed we noticed a lot of long black hairs... Then the cups for coffee and tea we're used and we noticed hairs in the bathroom. It just was a deal breaker for us. We booked another hotel that evening and had a wonderful time in knysna. Do yourself a favour and skip this hotel.

Thank you very much for taking the time to let us know about your experience with us at Knysna Hollow and we are all very disappointed to hear that you did not enjoy your room and decided to stay elsewhere. While we always pride ourselves on doing the very best for our guests, it does happen that we do not always get this right and, if you could have advised us of the issues you experienced with your room, we would have done everything we could to rectify the problems, either by a complimentary room upgrade or in some other way. We are all glad to hear that you did enjoy your time in Knysna however. With kind regards from Clive and the Team at Knysna Hollow.
