This is a wonderful lodge to stay in and highly recommended.
The main lodge and each individual lodge is beautifully constructed and decorated with natural timber and fibres. The attention to detail is excellent, especially in the wonderful bathrooms with lovely bath salts and bubbles to use in the spa bath whilst enjoying a cold drink from the mini bar whilst watching the sun set over the lagoon. The hospitality was great with a family feel and Fish could not do enough to help us.
Something a bit different and highly recommended.

My wife and I have just returned from a trip to Cape Town and the Garden Route. In Knysna we stayed at the Elephant Hide Lodge. Secluded and set on a hill overlook ing the lagoon accommodation is in individual lodges which have been cleverly designed so that you have total privacy from every window and from the jet bath and double showers. The sleeping area has large king beds with unobstructed views of the lagoon. Breakfast is taken in the main lodge building which has a terrace complete with infinity pool. The EHL is a family affair and all members give a very personal and attentive service. Within a 2 minute drive of the Waterfront it is an unbeatable place to stay. We'd give it a 5 star rating. We contacted the lodge directly on [---]

The Elephant Hide Lodge was booked for us for 2 nights by Vacation Boulevard based in Cape Town. The had organised a 6 day garden Route Tour with G Tours, a personalised tour operator with car and driver/guide. The Lodge is a bit out of the way which suited us as it was so quiet and peaceful. You stay in a wood cabin with full facilties. Excellent bed, jacussi bath, twin shower and even twin wash basins. There is tea or coffee making equipment and a mini bar so you can enjoy the sunset with a drink. The balcony looked out over the lagoon and was very private. Its only B and B but there are very good restaurants in Knysna on the waterfront. Recommend JJ,s up the stairs, they even entertain you after the meal. The lodge does have a small swimming pool which would have been great if the evenings had been a bit warmer. Breakfast was served in the main lodge which was very well appointed and the food served was also very good. Full english or continental, whichever your prefer. Staff were excellent. All in all a friendly experience, the car was even given a wash over as part of the service although a few rands was given to the lad that did the work. We used the lodge as a base to explore. There is no shortage of things to do within the area and of course Plettenburg and the whales are within reach. Go in Sept/Oct and see plenty. We saw some in November but they were slowly going back South. We would have liked to stay longer but have vowed to return and we would certainly look to stay here. You can contact Vacation Boulevard at --------. They can put you in touch with G Tours as well. I must say that is was great to have a guide who knew the area very well. We went to places the coaches cannot get .

We stayed here for 3 nights in June following a recommendation.

The lodge was gorgeous with a beautiful inland view over the lagoon.cleanliness was impeccable. We had sundowners each evening on the balcony.

The bathroom was also gorgeous with a beautiful view .

There is a beautiful small pool and deck but being winter was too cold.

The owners make you feel very welcome and restauraunts recommended were fab.

There are two minor issues for me with this place:

Firstly, It has a beautiful spot on the top of a hill but you need a car to get around even for dinner in the evenings. You cannot walk anywhere, it's too far.About 3km from central Knysna - we had a car so no worries.

Secondly, the owners do not stay on site overnight, they have a very friendly and helpful security guard who doubles up as a breakfast waiter. His english was not great - so in an emergency may be a challenge.

All in all a beautiful setting and well worth a stay

We had a superb stay and thoroughly enjoyed the warm welcome and hospitality from Ryan, Craig, Wendy and Fish at the Lodge.

The location is beautiful overlooking the lagoon and is set in a quiet and peaceful area. It is on the outskirts of Kynsna, about a 5 minute drive to the centre of town.

The rooms are spacious, comfortable and are very tastefully designed. Our bedroom had a large 'picture' window overlooking the lagoon, as did our bathroom. The bathroom had twin sinks, a wonderful jacuzzi/bath and walk-in shower.

The breakfast is freshly prepared and is excellent, especially the fruit platter.

The restaurants they recommended were very good as were the tours they arranged.

I would highly recommend staying here if you like small guesthouses, with excellent attention to detail and friendly, efficient staff.
