Super staff, passionate owners, beautiful lodges especially the honeymoon lodge, best foot massage and pedicure I have ever had......

Definitely recommended on a trip to South Africa.

Thanks to the staff for making our holiday special.

We stayed in cabin 10 for 7 nights with our 2 children (aged 4 & 2) in the middle of our stay on the garden route. It was everything we expected - beautiful cabin, gardens and great staff (couldn't be more helpful). The kitchen was more for adhoc cooking than full meals but perfect for our needs...the BBQ got more use! Definately get the staff to organise your bbq for you - they'll get in everything you need from salads to seafood and it'll be ready to cook at the time you want, a nice touch. The pool was lovely but a little cold - too chilly for the children which was a shame but not the end of the world. Breakfast was really great - from fresh scones to the full cooked breakfast and pancakes.

The room service was incredible, so nice to come home and find everything so amazingly clean and tidy (makes it more of a holiday with children!). They even re-tidied evrything I had tidied already!

All in all we were very pleased we chose Tonquani.

We spent a week in Tonquani Lodge after a week in Cape Town and a short trip to a beautiful private game reserve. After the very high standard of the accommodation at the game reserve, we were worried that we might be disappointed in Knysna, but far from it.

Location-wise, it IS some distance from central Knysna (if you call 4-5 mins in the car a long way) but this makes it more relaxing and gives you the added benefit of resident monkeys, guinea fowl, peacocks and rabbits.

The luxury suite is huge with a beautiful 4 poster bed and enormous bathroom - two baths and an amazing shower. The kitchen and living room are comfortable although nothing special. Outside is a large balcony with very nice loungers and a large-ish plunge pool, probably very welcome in the middle of summer (though not at the end of March).

All accommodation and shared areas were invariably spotless; the staff were extremely helpful across the board and nothing was ever too much trouble. Breakfast was ok with a good selection of hot and cold food. Finally the spa was excellent - great range of therapies done by the very professional and friendly Diandri.

Overall we had a great time at Tonquani Lodge and would recommend it thoroughly.

My wife, our teenage daughter, and myself stayed at Tonquani Lodge & Spa for 5 nights in March this year and it was the highlight of our visit to South Africa. They really do live up to their promise of being "pampered & spoilt" and all other places paled in comparison after we left Tonquani.

We ourselves run businesses back in the UK in and around Morecambe Bay and we know just how important it is to make a positive impression. Well. everyone at Tonquani certainly did that and we couldn't fault anything.

The accommodation is perfect but it is the attention to detail by the owners and staff that makes it such a memorable experience. The complimentary tea & cake is just one example of the lengths Tonquani will go to to meet your every desire with a variety of tasty treats served every afternoon - chocolate cake, small sandwiches, sweet scones. Hmmm....

We all enjoyed the Spa (and it is a 5 star experience at good prices). We have never had the pleasure of having the entire Spa to ourselves during treatments and this was just another example of Tonquani's commitment to the pleasure of guests.

Unique and special, luxurious and grand - we will be back!

I work for a UK Premiership football club & we travel & stay in some of the best hotels & resorts in the World....so I am used to the best !

I chanced upon Tonquani in 2000 & now I am a regular visitor as are many of my friends !!

9 trips there in 7 years has got to tell you how good it is !!.

The staff are attentive, the faciltes excellent & the Lodges are very well equiped & extremely comfortable & oh..... what a superb location.

I have many happy memories of Tonquani, but my best is just sitting on the Lodge balcony one night with a chilled glass of excellent (South African) white wine, watching a fantastic sunset & a small group of monkeys playing in the trees opposite.

Nothing is too much trouble for the staff & they arranged trips to lots of local places which we may not have visited, like Monkeyland (a must visit place) & the Knysna elephant park.

They also booked us trips on the local steam train through to George & re arranged an internal flight when we wanted to stay a few days longer....nothing was too much trouble & any request, was always met with a smile !

I live in the UK, but my 2nd home is Tonquani....go & visit...you won't be dissapointed. (Please not in December 2007 as I want to make sure I get a reservation !!!)

Just back from a stay at the lodge whilst traveling the garden route, we had a great 3 nights there although I think that was about long enough. It is a fair way out of town and found it very secluded and quite. Had a great barbi one night just ordered steak, prawns and salad at reception on our way out for the day and when we returned everything was brought to our lodge beatifully prepared and at a very reasonable cost.

The lodge its self was charming though quite old fashioned and had everything you could posibly need. Breakfast was fine although it would have been nicer to have an outdoor breakfast area as it was very hot inside.

The staff were very helpful and our laundry was done very quickly. If we returned to Knysna we would stay nearer the town.

We booked and paid for three nights for our honeymoon, but after staying one night we had enough. Why?
- There is absolutely no genuine feeling about this place - log cabins with little charm and not a very tasteful interior (big stereo, ugly furniture, weird smell in bathroom and closets)
- The location is in the middle of nowhere
- The breakfast was nothing special, although they claim it to be

We couldn't believe the place had a 5 star rating, other places that we stayed at with a 3 or 4 star rating were so much better value for money and so much more charming. The place is trying to score points by putting flower buds everywhere, and by having an over-helpful staff, but it doesn't make up for the lack of taste.
