We spent three nights at this delightful hotel. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome. The staff were all friendly and went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We had a lovely room with great views. We loved the interior of the building and the soft music which was piped throughout the atrium. We enjoyed being so close to the water and watching the boats sail past. There is nothing not to like about the Lofts.

Unusual accommodation. Boat shed converted to a boutique hotel. Perfect position on Thesen Island. You are able to walk around the harbour town, even at night. Hotel is clean with all amenities. Staff are very helpful and obliging. They even have a bike rack for my husband to store his cycle. Lovely large balcony with 2 comfortable loungers. Room is hot so you need to use the air conditioner at night. Highly recommended. You are given a voucher for breakfast which adequately covers breakfast cost. As it was Christmas not all places were open though.

I know Knysna quite well but this the first time I've stayed on Thesen Island - and I loved being so close to the water! This boutique hotel has a wonderfully calming effect on its guests. With different rest areas to enjoy, an intimate bar/lounge overlooking the water, friendly staff (especially the receptionist) and great loungers on your private balcony there really isn't much more you could ask for. And for those guests who like to come 'home' a bit later there's always that decanter of something tasty to help yourself to before climbing the stairs to bed. Breakfast is served at the Turbine across the way - a good start to the day. Spa treatments are also avaialable on site. each treatment room looks onto the water for maximum stress release. Fabulous.

We stayed in the loft room 1B. The room is beautiful and very comfortable, however there are a lot of negatives. The room has contstant noise from the entrance of the hotel and reception area, there is noise from the stairs coming from the reception area, and noise from a public bench oustide the hotel's entrance. Overall this room was a disappointmebt as we could not enjoy the views because of these shotrcomings. The breakfast set up was also disappointing as there was only one option as we left the hotel at 8am.

Room Tip: Dont choose room 1B if you want privacy and quiet

Hi TerryWilcox1,

Thank you for writing your review.
It is always great getting feedback from guests as this helps us improve on issues you have mentioned. We are terribly sorry for the noise irritation that you experienced on your stay. On your next visit we would recommend trying Luxury Lagoon Suite 2 - Lagoon Brilliance as this room is situated on the water's edge, away from the reception area or if you prefer you can try one of the Luxury Loft Rooms which is situated further down into The Boatshed.

We will also work on controlling the noise levels in the reception area to reduce the noise levels you experienced.

Kind Regards

There is so much to love about this place, situated as it is on Thesen Island in the middle of the Knysna Lagoon. The Lofts is in a renovated boat-building shed and the transformation is superb! As a family we stayed in one of the two bedroom loft apartments, which provided our small person with her own bedroom and bathroom. This space, as it is up amongst the old cross-beams, is truly magical and provided our small person with hours of fun - it also allows mum and dad to have their own 'romantic' private space. The two bedroom apartments do not have a view but this is compensated for by the apartment's decoy and generous amounts of space. The other available types of rooms have views but vary in size and style. There is a (plunge-size) pool which looks out on the lagoon, a lounge with a bar and an 'honesty' system, and another lounge on the first floor that looks out over the lagoon. NB. You will need a car to reach the nearest swimming beaches. The two bedroom apartments allow you to cook and cater for yourself but The Lofts is located next to the fabulous Lle de Pain Cafe (see separate review), which is open for breakfast and lunch. There are also lots restaurants within easy walking distance. The Lofts reception is open from 7 am to 9 pm and the staff are helpful and friendly. Free WiFi is available throughout and there is also a computer in the lounge bar. Undercover parking is provided!

Room Tip: Depends on your needs. There are two bedroom loft apartments, 'luxury' one bedroom apartment...

The hotel is located on Thesen Islands, and our room had a wonderful view of the lagoon. The room was very nicely decorated. The hotel was interesting and had a lovely interior, however Thesen Islands is an odd place, a collection of estate agents, a few high end tourist shops and five restaurants amongst a residential area (the pizza restaurant Col' Cacchio is highly recommended as is the breakfast place ile de pain). The area did seem to lack atmosphere.
Knysna is a good base for a wide range of outdoor activities.

The only irritation concerns the internet which was an ridiculous voucher based system where each voucher allowed 200MB, absolutely useless if on a laptop, I got through several over a 2 day stay. You also had to enter voucher details regularly as for some reason they were not stored on devices for more than a short period of time. One of the reasons we booked this hotel availability of wifi…

Room Tip: We stayed in Tower 1 and had great views of the lagoon

My husband and I made use of the "Honeymoon Special" towards the end of September 2013, and we had an unbelievable time at the Lofts. The view of the Lagoon from our room was breathtaking, the amenities were lovely and the staff did everything they could to make our stay memorable. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a 5-star experience in one of the most idyllic locations in South Africa!
