“Victorian grandeur, a bit faded, but great!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 November 2013

We stayed for three nights whilst in Kysna, and found Ernest to be the perfect host, sorting out a couple of problems for us and making sure our nightcap of local wine was nice and chilled!
The rooms are nice and big, and clean, but in need of an update ( but it's not really a problem ).
As the weather turned to the better, Ernest arranged for us to have our breakfast on the deck outside the room, a really nice touch.
It's a shame that a local car firm has built a warehouse looking building across the road, which obscures the view of the sea, but don't let that put you off. Look out for the monkey's on the roof of the annexe in the morning.
overall, a great stay, and would love to go back

We stayed in an outside room, It's a family unit with a double bed at the front and two single beds in the room at the back separated by wall and a curtained door. When we arrived, the owner showed us the room and told us not to leave the room without the key, otherwise it will be locked. As we arrived very late we needed to use a microwave but the owner had already retired for the day and we had no access to the kitchen.

The room was decorated with old style curtains and linen, I felt like i had stepped into the 18th century. I didnt appreciate seeing long hair in between the sheet and comforteron our bed because they belong to someone else, making it clear that i was sleeping with dirty linen. The mattress was in bad condition, it made squeaking noises and was just worn out.

Actually the old, outdated room we still could bear with it, but the hygiene that is reflected by other peoples hairs in our bed was unacceptable. The least they can do is to change the linen between guests.

We were travelling with kids, and of course the kids always make noise however it was surprising to find that our kids were told to keep quiet even during the day because some guests are sleeping.

My suggestion is for the owner to please upgrade the rooms especially the deco, get with the time please.

Room Tip: Never choose the rooms inside when travelling with kids.

We stayed in Knysna for 2 nights on our Garden tour and on my parents recommendation stayed at Yellowwood Lodge, its a lovely old house set into the hill with beautiful gardens and a small swimming pool. Our room (no.8) was one of 3 separate from the main house overlooking the gardens and was large, clean and comfortable with a little kitchen area and fridge and its own terrace. The breakfast was served on the main house terrace and was a buffet except the cooked breakfast which was made to order, we had omlettes both mornings and they were great. The owner was freindly and helpful. We would stay here again.

Lucky to find this Lodge after 9 at night -everything else seemed locked up for the night.
Large room and old facility that needs some updating - but adequate - generous breakfast & well priced. Would recommend.

Very good rooms, maybe a bit dated, but overall nice. Pity that construction of a garage was allowed in front of the lodge, otherwise the views would have been great. Excellent breakfast. A small hick up with a power breakdown, was generously compensated by the owner, without us asking for anything. Good value for money!

Excellent accommodation and breakfast. Beautifully kept house from early 20th century with a very well kept garden and well located within Knysna, five minutes from shopping mall and 15 minutes to the waterfront. We stayed in the cottage and all was clean and comfortable. The owner was attentive on any small detail and gave us excellenst suggestions about what to do in the area.

We stayed in a double room in the garden annexe - clean, light & airy, comfortable etc. Staff welcoming and helpful, breakfasts very good. Our only disappointment was the view - we selected Yellowwood because of the advertised views over the lagoon. Within the last two months a neighbour has constructed a large steel shed (car sales showroom?)just across the road that completely blocks the view. Clearly nothing Yellowwood can do, what a shame for them, they deserve better.
