“Wonderful Property with Outstanding Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2013

Had a wonderful two day stay at Villa Afrikana. We wished we could have stayed longer. There is a reason why Villa Afrikana is the #1 accommodation in Knysna. The attention to detail of Ross and Bianca ensure an enjoyable stay. Breakfast is very delicious and plentiful. The room was very clean and comfortable. You will definitely want to stay here.

My wife and I arrived at Villa Afrikana on Sunday late afternoon, after a drive from Port Elizabeth. We were immediately blown away by the design of the Villa, and the services rendered to us! As it was my wife's birthday, we were given a complimentary upgrade to the Suite on the highest level! Our rented car was also given a nice scrub to remove the grimes that were on the car body from the drive :)

In the Suite, we had the best view over the lagoon, and were able to enjoy our glasses of white wine and strawberries coated with chocolates! Before we go to bed, we indicated our breakfast choices and hung the note outside our door. The next morning, our delicious sumptuous breakfast was brought to our room!

The Villa is truly deserving of its 5 stars rating, and due to our itinerary, we could only stay 1 night, but we do recommend a minimum 2 nights stay to enjoy the full hospitality by Villa Afrikana!

Room Tip: Choose the highest floor room for the best view!

Fantastic views, directly through the Heads so you can see the waves breaking, and over the lagoon, this is a world class guesthouse with hospitable and on-the-ball owner-hosts providing some awesome local flavour and European flair. Our suite was fantastic, and the others look easily as good. Great position within town for restaurants and sites. Great tourist advice and information, from eating to Bungy Jumping the world's highest commercial jump at Bloukrans, to mountain bike trails to golfing, Bianca and Ross will ably assist. Spent lots of time in Knysna, and this place is tops.

I and my wife stayed one night at the Noetzie Suite in Villa Afrikana. We saw on the web that this place is rated as the No. 1 place to stay in Knysna ......... very soon we could understand why that is so. The suite was big and modern (with a jacuzzi tub), the staff some of the friendliest that we have ever encountered, the views of the lagoon from the 2nd floor suite's balcony was unbeatable, excellent breakfast delivered to the room, but most important of all, Bianca and Ross made us feel as if we were visiting friends & not checking in to a hotel.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the 2nd floor to enjoy the best view of the lagoon.

We had the Goura Suite which was very good as the balcony is quite private. The room was lovely and Bianca and Ross were excellent hosts. We arrived early at 11am and they were able to book us a Knysna ferry to the Featherbed Nature Reserve and by the time we returned our room was all ready.

The bed was very firm and comfortable. The bathroom was massive and very modern. You have the option of breakfast in the reception area or in your room and the latter was preferred by us. The standard of food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and we even had our car washed!

At this time of year there was no sun on the balcony but we could see other rooms in the sunshine taking advantage of having breakfast outside but we found this slightly chilly in our case as it was in the shade.

As this is a guest house there is no full dining area as such but they serve light early evening meals if you wish.

We had a small problem finding the Guest House as it is located high up outside the main town and you turn off at Fletcher Street and not Fletcher Road as shown on their details.

Room Tip: If possible choose a room that has a balcony with early morning sun to take full advantage of the pr...

This luxurious Villa is located high up on the side of a hill in the Knysna suburb of Paradise - somewhat appropriate - with great views over the Knysna lagoon and heads.

Stayed, unfortunately, for only 2 nights in the Noetzie Suite which is located on the second (top) floor. There were approximately 41 stairs to negotiate to get there (13 from the car park area to the ground floor, 14 from the ground to the first floor (including part spiral) and 14 from the first to the second floor) but well worth the effort (and our bags were carried up to and down from our room by the staff). The interior of the Villa's common areas and our suite was beautiful with white tiles and white walls, all tastefully and stylishly furnished and spotlessly clean.

Our suite had a very large open plan area with a lounge room opening onto the bedroom with a fireplace in between. There was a very comfortable lounge, separate chair and small table in the lounge area whilst there was an extremely comfortable extra king sized bed, chairs, wardrobe, fridge (with water and biscotti), safe, ceiling fan and bedside tables with lamps in the bedroom. There was tea/coffee making facilities. A fairly large balcony was located off the bedroom with a table and 2 chairs. From the balcony you looked down onto the Villa's pool area and further afield out to the Knysna heads. It was great going to bed and waking up with the curtains open looking out onto that beautiful view.

The bathroom was very large with a huge spa bath, separate shower (pressure very good), twin hand basins and heated floors.

Free WIFI was available however the signal was very intermittent notwithstanding the fact that our hosts had located what appeared to be signal boosters on each floor. The signal was better in the guest lounge area although not great.

The service provided by our hosts, Rossano and Bianca, and their staff was exceptional. We were met on arrival by our hosts with cold refreshing towels and a welcoming juice whilst the features of the Villa were explained to us. Shortly after being shown to our room two glasses of wine with some strawberries that had been dipped in chocolate arrived and were placed on the little table on the balcony. Excellent way to settle in. Breakfast was very good and could have been enjoyed in our room or eaten downstairs in the guest dining area (which also had a great view over the lagoon) where breakfast was served to you. You chose the time to have breakfast and what you wanted from a fairly extensive menu the night before. Breakfast choices included juice, fruit, cereals, eggs (any way), tomato, bacon, mushrooms etc, toast (including gluten free bread), spreads and barista coffee.

The staff were only too happy to bring tea/coffee/drinks up to your room and there was also a small bar with an honour system in the guest dining room where you could help yourself to a glass of wine etc.

Ross and Bianca made a number of very good suggestions for meals, made the reservations and booked transport for us. One of the staff even washed our car on the morning of the day that we left. There was secure off street parking.

Downsides. There were a couple. The stairs (for some) and the internet connection already mentioned. The location - whilst it provided great views - you really needed a car, preferably with GPS as the sign-posting up to the Villa from the main road was sporadic. The Villa was a 12-15 minute steep and winding walk up from the main road next to the lagoon. You would need to walk a further 10-15 minutes to get to the main Knysna shopping area and further to the waterfront. Lastly, the cost of the laundry service which I thought was exorbitant compared to what we had paid at other places in South Africa that were of an equal standard.

Notwithstanding these issues - would we stay here again? In a heartbeat.

We pride and thrive in our meticulous attention to details, eagerness to please, unpretentious ambiance, magnificent views and the exceptional level of service, equally and evenly provided by our wonderful staff day after day.

We sincerely apologize for the downsides (no one ever said it was easy to get to, or communicate from “Paradise”), jokes aside we value your feedback and we are addressing the issues for a permanent resolution.

We are looking forward to reserve “Your Place in Paradise” in the near future

We've been in South Africa for our Honeymoon. We had a mix between good hotels and REALLY GOOD hotels.
Villa Afrika was one ot the REALLY GOOD hotels we did.
On the top of the hill, with a great view over the lagoon, Bianca and Ross gave us a warm and friendly welcome.
The Villa has a nice pool and terrasse and the inside (bedrooms, lounge and kitchen are super nice!)
For breakfast, we could individualise the night before by selecting what we wanted on a list of delicious things.
It was served exactly at the time we asked on our private terrase with a view over the lagoon.
It was one of the best breakfast I ever had !
During our stay, Bianca and Ross came several times to discuss with us and give us tips about what to do in the region.
It was a really nice stay, calm and romantic, many thanks again !!
