We had a wonderful stay under the care of Sanet and Christo who were so helpful. I always say choose the places that are owner run. Highlights were the honesty approach to all aspects of the stay, the sundowners on the deck and wonderfully decorated rooms. I also really like the two family rooms.

Picked it off the internet and it looked quirky, but what a great place. Chris and Sanet were superb hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. Sherry and Port in the lounge along with Ostrich biltong (gave that a miss). Breakfast either inside in a lovely room, or outside by the little pool.
Couldn't really fault it.
Would definitely stay there again if in Oudtshoorn.

We stayed here for one night whilst on our way to Cape Town and so it was really just a stopover but we so wish we could have stayed longer! I have stayed in some pretty nice places over the years but this hotel took my breath away! The rooms are simply stunning - the owners have thought of everything from the little chocolates on the bed, the mini decanter of port to the luxury toiletries in the bathroom. The owners were so friendly but in no way intrusive. They have excellent recommendations for restaurants (go to the Italian-exceptional food and atmosphere) and we took their advice on taking Route 62 rather than the Garden Route and we were so pleased with our choice-incredible views through the mountains! Breakfast was also delicious! This place is so reasonably priced for what you get - they really should put their prices up! I really cannot recommend it enough! Thank you Riverside Lodge for such a relaxing and perfect stay!

A very nice place to stay and a fun experience. We were amazed by the fun treehouse we slept in, the special beds, bathroom, doors etc. They also have a bedheater in the double bed. The room was very clean, the breakfast very tasty! The Hotel is in a Good walking distance to many restaurants for dinner and safe to walk back in the dark. If you want to visit they caves and the ostrich farms it is good place to stay because the driving distance is quit short. For the one ostrich farm they also give you a discount! The only thing we did not like that much was the heavy smell of the fires lightet before in the fire place, but you get used to it, when you are in there a little bit.

Room Tip: Pick a treehouse, it is worth it :)

When we checked-in we received a very warm welcome from Dianne which made us feel at home straightaway. The manager Samet was also so nice and very attentive and was always wanting to make sure that we were completely satisfied with everything during our one night stay. She recommended an Italian restaurant for dinner called Bella Cibo and it was wonderful and the prices were so reasonable. This was our first visit to South Africa and we didn't know that it would be such fantastic value compared with the U.K. for food and wine and the quality of both is first class. We were booked in one of the Luxury Double rooms. It was a very spacious room with attractive traditional furnishings and like everywhere else we stayed in South Africa it had a large bed with a firm mattress which was so comfortable. The Riverside's terrace must be the best place in Oudsthoorn to sit and have your sundowners with its beautiful views across the river, the countryside and the mountains in the distance. You really feel you are in Africa ! They have a small bar just off the terrace where you help yourself to whatever you want ! It is an Honesty bar so you write down what you have and pay at the end of your stay. The morning we left we went to the Cango Caves which were about a 45 minute drive from Oudsthoorn. They are really worth seeing. You can also visit Ostrich farms. We hadn't realised how magnificent the scenery was going to be with some beautiful mountains. We had thought one night would be enough but if we hopefully get the chance to go back to South Africa we would plan for another night here so that we could really explore the area - and have some more sundowners on the terrace !
