“Excellent stay”

We had a great stay at Tierra Blanca. We were made to feel very welcome and it was only a shame we booked in for one evening. Morkel is a great host and looked after us, we will be back!

We arrived at Terra Bianca after a long drive from the Breede River in sweltering heat.

Morkel, the owner of the guest house, was very inviting and friendly, helping us with our bags through the garden and down some steep steps. He recommended a few restaurants and had the menus for us to look at after which he made a booking for us. We joined him, one of his friends and his 5 Yorkies for a generous serving of wine on his patio outside the main house just before our dinner booking.

There are only 4 rooms, so you definitely get personal attention from Morkel and lots of chats! The rooms are very neat and decorated well. The bathroom and toilet is also very clean and modern. I have 2 very small gripes, we missed having a TV in the room (it forced us to enjoy the tranquil surrounding so it was probably a good thing), and the water pressure in the shower was a bit low for our liking. But like I said, just being picky!

Breakfast is served between 7am and 9am. We had to give Morkel the exact time we would be having breakfast so that he could ensure that it was prepared as we arrived. Morkel does the cooking himself - jack of all trades :). On both days we were served, coffee/tea, juice, bread, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, mushroom and grilled tomato.

It's very clear that Morkel takes a lot of pride in his guest house and he is passionate about what he does. You will most certainly feel like you are a guest in his home.

Room was spotless and very tastefully decorated. The view from the room was wonderful and the colourful birds put on an amazing display for us. Lovely bathroom with everything you might need, a comfortable bed and a very quiet location. The room afforded a great deal of privacy. We booked at short notice but nevertheless received a very warm welcome from our host who showed us to our room, provided a variety of menus for local eating and even gave recommendations when requested. We were invited to join our host for a lovely glass of wine before going out to dine. The dining recommendations were excellent as was the fabulous breakfast the next morning

Stayed there on our way to Capetown. The guesthouse is beautifully situated overlooking the river and surroundings. Beaiutiful garden with lots of roses. We had rooms in the low side of the garden under a terrace. they had the right size but were very damp. Mould and stains on the ceilings and walls. Bathroom ok but a bit cramped. Service and breakfast were good. The place iooks a bit run down and needs a paintjob soon to make it up to standard again

Having booked on very short notice through booking.com we were the only people staying that night and hence caught Lourens our host a little off guard. That said he was the perfect host showing us to our room and making us feel very welcome from the start. Our room was spotless, with a very comfortable bed and a great view. Breakfast was delicious and a very generous portion. Add the great chat we had with Lourens after breakfast I would say we had a perfect stay and would gladly are likely to return with some friends in tow next year.

The hospitality and breakfast were amazing. Morkel invited us to have a drink and was a great host. We had a great conversation with him as well as two other repeat guests that had become good friends of his. He gave great restaurant recommendations and his four little dogs were fun to have around. Breakfast was excellent and the grounds are beautifully maintained.

The only downside was it can get a little hot in the rooms, but I wouldn't stay anywhere else. This is what traveling is about: great hosts, new friends, and good conversations.
