“Such Fun”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

Great guide very good at getting everyone involved in the tour. My son got to ride an Ostrich which was hilarious. We also had lunch here which proved a little difficult as the menu consisted mostly of ostrich which we didnt want to eat, after seeing them running around. Good place though and we would recommend a visit. Real inexpensive too

Thank you for your review ! I am glad you had such a good time whilst visiting us. Our set-menu meals are based around Ostrich Fillet since we want our visitors to have the full "ostrich experience" whilst in the Ostrich Capitol of the world. We do however have other options for those visitors who do not want to eat ostrich - we do also cater for vegetarians and other dietary requirements. Thank you for your visit and feedback.

“Educational ostrich experience!”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

Our tour here was included as part of our SA group family escorted trip. We were accompanied by a guide throughout our visit; he explained each part of the tour clearly and gave us ample opportunity to ask questions.
We were shown ostriches of various ages, including their two oldest (29 and 30-something) and given the chance to stand on (infertile) eggs to show just how strong they are - and believe me they will take a 185cm 95kg young man easily!!!
We were also told about the history of the farm and of ostrich farming in general, how the emphasis has changed over the years . There is a small but informative museum room which we were taken to.
The best part of the tour, though, had to be the chance to feed the ostriches! Great fun if a little hair-raising as they are greedy and determined...! We also saw the other two sub species - I for one hadn't realised there were differences and it was great to see them clearly shown.
The shop at the end is quite expensive, simply because it specialises in ostrich leather goods which are quite high end by their nature, but they also have some feather dusters and keyrings which make more affordable souvenirs, especially for the kids!
An enjoyable hour or so.

Thank you for your review ! We want to educate our visitors to how amazing and unique ostriches are and have designed our tours to reflect this. I agree with you about how fascinating it is to see the 3 different sub-species of ostrich and how incredibly different they are. Safari Ostrich Farm is the first show farm in South Africa where our visitors can see the different types of ostrich. Thank you for your visit and feedback.

“Riding the Ostrich is Inhumane”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

I went to the safari park and no, months later, I'm ashamed that I bought the "ostrich ride." For about a minute, the ostrich was forced to run around a small yard with me on its back while 2 men whipped it and yelped for it to move faster. There's no concern for the animals at this safari park. The ostriches are seen as an economic resource. They sell real leather products at the gift shop. The people were very friendly and I understand they need to make $. But many of us come to SA for the animals and nature. We need to think twice and stop supporting this industry.

Thank you for your review ! I understand your concern with regards the riding but want to assure you that we do not whip our ostriches. We were the first ostrich show farm that implemented a weight limit for those who are keen to ride these strong animals. The South African animal welfare organization were so impressed with the way we take care of the ostriches that they asked the other show farms to also implement the same. We want to make our guided tours a informative experience about these unique birds and definitely not a situation where one can come hurt our birds for a thrill. Thank you for your visit and feedback.

“Loved it!”
Reviewed 8 August 2014

We had a very nice time. We had what amounted to a private tour. It was very informative and a lot of fun. A very important point is for people to tip the staff not only at this ranch, but wherever you go in South Africa. Staff make peanuts and everyone needs to be able to put food on the table.

Nice quiet spot with a suitable play area for little children and a small but sufficient cafeteria for a light lunch, well priced and lovely outdoor area.
