“Not impressed”
Reviewed 7 April 2009

We stayed here for one night on or honeymoon. The rooms were basic. The beds were so hard we could not sleep. The breakfast was ....the only word is gross. there were so many flies every where that I really could not eat a bite. I am not joking. For a honeymoon couple a would not recommend it.

We stayed here only one night during our drive along Route 62 from PE to Cape Town as part of a two-week South Africa trip. The staff were very welcoming, the room was clean and looked out onto beautiful gardens. The bathroom was well-equipped although, as others have mentioned, we were disappointed in the colour of the water and chose not to make use of the large, and very inviting, bathtub. During our two-week trip, this was the only place where we were advised not to drink the water and Oudtshoorn has some work to do if it wants to be taken seriously as a popular tourist location. Other than this, we had no criticisms. The recommendation for eating out locally was first class, the breakfast options were wide enough to cover all that we wanted, and the overnight complimentary car wash was a very welcome surprise.

We were pleasantly surprised with the Hlangana Lodge. We had low expectations to begin with as Oudtshoorn is not really the holiday location of the world. It is an area where you would generally get mid-range type of accomodation for people travelling through.

The Lodge grounds, pool area, restaurant were quite beautiful for a desert type area. The staff were professional and friendly. Rooms are still average as to be expected however clean and confortable.

We stayed one night here and were impressed, the comfortable little bungalows are set in gorgeous gardens with little verandahs, and very reasonable mini-bars. There is a very cold pool with sun loungers around it, but we headed off into Outdshoorn to one of the amazing restaurants and had one of the best steaks ever. It was about a 5 minute walk.

The bed was comfortable and quiet, and there was a nice big bathroom, the staff were really nice and helpful. They have a range of ostrich feather boas for sale which was nice! Breakfast was set in a lovely airy room next to fountains, with lots of cute birds, and included bucks fizz if you fancied one (I didn't - must have been hungover).

Overall a very nice stay, and they washed our car too. I wish we had spent longer in Outdshoorn, there was so much to do - we stroked cheetah and tigers at Cango which was fantastic.

The gardens and pool are lovely - the rooms were basic but clean. Bathrooms were fab, and i was looking forward to a nice bath in the big corner bath. Only one problem, water was brown! They told me it was normal but when we insisted that it wasnt! They said it must be rusty pipes - so no shower or bath for me! They couldnt place us in another room as they were fully booked. This is classed as 4 star - I would rate it a 3 star, not just because of the water but because of the over all experience.

This guest house was more impersonal than the others we stayed in during our 3 week trip and felt more like a hotel. The standard room was basic and not very welcoming although the view over the beautiful garden went some way to make up for this. The breakfast was dissappointing especially after the quality we had experienced in our previous guest houses.

The staff were very friendly and helpful athough the service at breakfast was slow.

This is a convenient place to stay for the main Oudsthoorn attractions and is within a few minutes walk of some lovely restaurants. Kalinka was out of this world!

We stayed at Hlangana Lodge for two nights and found the accommodation to be everything we expected! The room, with all facilities, was spacious and comfortable, with a verandah overlooking exquisite grounds. The staff were very pleasant and helpful - booking reservations for us at nearby restaurants. The comprehensive buffet breakfast was served in a separate lodge.

It is a beautiful place to stay at very reasonable rates. We would highly recommend Hlangana.
