I booked Feather Nest after reading reviews on tripadvisor and we stayed here for two nights.
The accomodation provides excellent value for money. The owners, Roger and Cynthia do not live in the house, but do let themselves in in the morning to make you a wonderful breakfast and provide some conversation. They are very hospitable and are both able to provide great advice on the local area.
Dinner at Jemimas was great and was very busy.
Oudtshoorn is a great place and there is lots to do and see.
We met a German couple who spoke highly about the Swartberg Pass - we started this in the morning and it took the whole day. This was an absolutely stunning drive and is highly recommended. We stopped off at a very pretty, tiny town called Prince Albert and had lunch at the Lazy Lizard which was one of our most memorable experiences. Their motto was "relax, it's the Karoo".
We also visited the Highgate Ostrich Farm which Roger had recommended to us as one of the better ostrich farms. Here you will have the opportunity to even ride an ostrich, which I passed on, but my husband took up and promptly fell off!

We were welcomed by our lovely hosts Roger and Cynthia with some tea and lots of helpful advice. The place is absolutely pristine with the most beautiful garden. It is definitely the most tranquil place we have stayed in South Africa. We were also given a lovely breakfast on the patio accompanied by some classical music which we thought was a lovely touch.

Our hosts were so friendly and accommodating, and we would definitelly stay there again. You can contact them on:

After a long drive from Cape town to Oudtshoorn, we were warmly greeted by Rodger of the B&B. He showed us around and instantly made us feel at home. He suggested a great place to eat for dinner; Jamimas'. We have eaten in many resturants around the world but never had such great food and service. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

A fully and hearty breakfast was prepared each morning by Cynthia, Rogers wife. There was a good choice to choose from, and we ate in the breakfast room which looks into the garden.

Cynthia and Riger are warm, friendly people, who made every moment of our stay as comfortable and special as possible.

I would definately return to stay at Feather Nest, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice, clean, cosy and comfortable place to stay; just like a home away from home.

We stayed at Feather Nest after a long drive from Cape Town and found Roger & Cynthia to be wonderful hosts and helpful in finding us somewhere to have dinner. Rooms are very clean and the breakfast is delicious.

A beautiful garden filled with birds, a nice place to start your day of tourism in and around Oudtshoorn.

We stayed at this B&B in February 2005. Friends of mine had recommended it as being comfortable clean and good value for money.
When we arrived it was blistering hot and we were offered some homemade iced lemon drink which was a nice personal touch. We stayed in a double room which had a large balcony overlooking a beautfiul garden and pool. If you are like me and rate cleanliness very highly then this one gets top marks! Crisp clean sheets and sparkling bathrooms. When we got back from a restaurant we found our bed had been turned down and it was fantastic how safe we felt lying in bed with our patio doors wide open letting the cool breeze in. Downstairs is air-conditioned and during the day when its boiling outside at least you can escape the baking sun for a bit. There are 2 double bedrooms upstairs and one air-conditioned suite downstairs. We managed to have a quick dip in the pool in the morning before being served some delicious breakfast in the garden. If you are interested in birds, there are quite a lot that come up from the riverbed and gobble up the fruit and bits that owner puts out for them. I would recommend getting there late afternoon in time to sit out on the balcony overlooking the beautiful garden with a cool drink and enjoy watching the sky turn crimson as the sun sets in Africa. We always find it so pleasant staying at places like this where you are made to feel welcome.
