I booked this guest house on line via bookings.com. All we wanted was somewhere to stay for the night and to see a few ostriches. We got a bit lost and emailed the property who answered straight back with helpful instuctions, and we soon found it. We were greeted by Andre the lovelist host we has ever had the pleasure of meeting, he was the manager on duty that day and one of lifes gems. He showed us to our room, and just was so welcoming, we immediately felt at home. He asked if we had dinner plans, which we hadn't and since we'd just driven from Franschhoek we were quite tired. Andre then suggested that we might like to have supper at the house as he was cooking a braai - ostrich of course. Well what a wonderful three course meal we had, followed by Andre entertaining us and a few of the other guests with a bit of the story of the farm, and arming us with some knowledge of ostrich leather and feathers. We ended up having unexpected great night of fun. A nice lttle touch was that when we got back to our room there were nibbles and glasses of port by the bedside.
Breakfast the following morning was lovely - scrambled ostrich eggs of course, was on the menu along with bacon sausages etc.
After breakfast we attended the ostrich farm tour with some of the other guests that were staying, and now what I don't know about the life cycle, history, and nurturing of an ostrich isn't worth knowing. The guy who's name I have forgotten was really interesting, and so knowelegable. We went into the incubator room, and then to to nursery where the 1 day old ostriches were kept, and were allowed to cuddle them. I was ever to tempted to pop one in my bag they were just so cute, but sanity prevailed.
We loved this place so much that we decided to stay an unscheduled 2nd night it was that nice.
The luxury room was really comfortable, flat screen TV, nice furnishing, bath products, big bathroom, comfortable bed and the view from the room is spectacular over the countryside. The house also has a lovely warm outdoor pool, and sun loungers to relax on. It also has pretty fast free WIFI, which is always nice when you're on holiday.
Would I go back - Yes most certainly.
Drawbacks - It's about 10km from town if you wanted to venture out at night, you'd have to drive. However we didn't find this a problem as found everything we needed on site.
The actual property is across the road from the ostrich farm, and there are daily tours at 930am which

Room Tip: Go for a luxury room, they are very much nicer. However the non luxury is perfectly fine, just a little dated that's all, but perfectly clean and acceptable.

Our family stayed for 2 nights at Mooiplass Guesthouse on our Oudtshoorm region trip. It was perfect. The rooms where great, amazing hospitality (great recommendation from them on what to do) and the breakfast was great. The B&B is a bit far from the city center (about 10 km) but it worth the driving.

I have stayed at Mooiplaas a couple of times for quite a lengthy period of time ( 2 to 3 weeks) . It is the only place to stay........ especially when you are far away from home for so long! The accommodation is superb, the service is even better and the staff ...... what can I say? Professional, but always accommodating, goes out of their way to make the stay super special and makes you feel totally at home!Nothing is too much trouble! I love the place and the people ...and yes, that is my no 1 home away from home.

Room Tip: Self catering units are great for long stays especially. Magnificent sunsets, fquiet arm atmosphere - food for the soul

A few minutes drive from oudtshoorn with welcoming bougainvillea hedges lies Mooiplaas guest house. Par excellence is the only work I have for this place.
Rooms were superbly decorated with their own little sitting spaces behind and had a long corridor with a fire place and comfy sofas to lounge around. Breathtaking views of the Outeniqua Mountains and being in the midst of the Klein Karoo are an added advantage.
Attention to details presented itself in the form of me discovering rose petals in my
Toilet, this is only a sample. The range of toiletries was fit for a king and queen.
It is an experience that has to be savoured. Special mention to Andre who was ever ready to help with anything. Was too cold to use the pool.Hope to be back there sometime.

Room Tip: The rooms in the first wing facing the pool are great.

This guest house is a 10-15 minutes drive from the town of Oudtshoorn. More like a farm stay the Mooiplaas is in a picturesque setting surrounded by numerous farms and offers a delightful stay. Take a stroll around sunset/sunrise with your camera and you will be richly rewarded with beautiful pictures.
There are 19 rooms, a pool and a restaurant in the property and the rooms are tastefully done and have a fridge, mini bar, coffee maker, oven and a TV. Flowers, leaves and petals are placed in several places in the room and the bathroom and they are lovely. One can relax in the long verandas in the evening and also order dinner which is expensive (by SAF standards) at 200 Rand per person. You would be better off driving to Oudtshoorn for dinner at half the price. Breakfast is good and you could choose to have Ostrich eggs and meat. Internet is free but very slow.
The Manager Andre and the lady who owns the place are attentive and make you feel at home. I love this place and so would you – highly recommended.

Room Tip: Pick any room in the ground level and you can't go wrong.
