My husband and I were only two of four people staying there at the time. It was there low season so on site dinner was not offered. They did however arrange a shuttle to a local restaurant. Room was ok but could use some refreshing There was a strong unpleasant order in our room that smelled like bug spray. We were told it was brass polish. There are no phones in the room to contact hotel personal. There was no bottled water available. They had run out. After breakfast the morning we were checking out, someone came to our room to get our luggage. It was only 9:00am and we were not ready. He came back two more times before we were finally packed. We felt rushed. You could tell many of the cottages were receiving a big cleaning as furniture was outside the units. We felt they wanted us out early to start that process on our cottage. Even though it was slow season, guests should not feel that their presence is not fully welcome. Otherwise stop taking any reservations during that period.

We only stayed 1 night as we were travelling through onto Franschhooek and Cape Town, on arrival our reserved room was not ready but we were immediately upgraded to a suite. The suite was large, spacious and comfortable and benefitted from a large bathroom and outdoor veranda. Breakfast was at best average which was a shame as the rest of our stay was good, I'm not sure given the location, people would book for longer than 2 nights and given that duration and the understanding that it is probably a 3-4 star booking its OK. We had booked an evening meal locally at Buffelsdrift Game lodge which was superb and highly recommended if staying nearby.

Room tip: If staying for longer than 1 night book a suite.

Room dark but functional. Very nice bathroom but shower ran from hot to cold. Wifi virtually non existent. I'm 6 foot 3" tall so and with such a short bed my feet overhung the end. Grounds unusual with lots of old bikes and nicnacs around. Enjoyed some time by the pool on sunloungers with towels provided but no padded covers. Evening buffet was poor - Mushy veg and poor quality food which we think was put on for a coachload staying same night. Marisa at reception was lovely and very helpful and together with the cook, who made us a superb breakfast, this evened out the downs of the stay.

Room tip: We stayed in room 15

We were on a tour and led to believe that this place was a four star country Lodge. The people were very friendly but the accommodation was average. The water situation in the bathroom was desperate (brown water)!!!! The food also was not of quality. A lot needs to be done to get a four star rating!

Room tip: I am not sure as to the quality of the other rooms
