“Old World Charm”

The hotel is located in the heart of the city and a 2-minute walk from the market square. It is a beautiful place with extremely friendly staff. The rooms are a tad small but nevertheless quite comfortable. Even though the bathrooms are also small but the shower expereince with the water pressure was amazing, The place offers all services of any upscale hotel. The breakfast buffet was very nice and offers good choice of cold and hot foods.

I must metion that the ladies at the reception were extremely friendly and courteous and had no problems with my little one running around the lobby at night. The lady doing the evening shift was infact going out of her way to keep my daughter engaged while I could sit and relax with my wife.

We stayed for one night and found everything to our satisfaction. I must say that the staff were so friendly and we were blown away by the food offering at dinner. Also loved the historical photographs in the hallways. The hotel shows its sense of history and has a dignified elegance.

We are in a process of upgrading the hotel. We have completed the maintenance and painting of the outside of the hotel. The hotel is the third oldest hotel in South Africa and the original hotel was built in 1880 and extensions were built in the 1950's. At that stage it was still common for rooms not to have en-suite bathrooms. Later on en-suite bathrooms were incorporated in all the rooms and hence the smaller rooms. The ambiance of the old colonial masterpiece surely makes up for the slightly smaller rooms, but are stiller bigger than most European hotels. The refurbishment of the bathrooms will be done in the more quite upcoming winter months. The pool area is also on the upgrading schedule in the coming winter months. Last weekend we have pruned the old tree next to the pool that was responsible for all the leaves in and around the pool. The painting of the 3 level building involved the building of scaffolding for the painters to stand on, which also lead to the garden to be in a little bit of a disarray. I trust that our guests in the next summer season will enjoy all the improvements

I stayed overnight at the Queens Hotel, and found it a comfortable place to rest our weary heads.
When we arrived, reception was ready and waiting to receive us. I had a group of forty six people which is no easy task to look after, but everything when effortlessly.
Hotel staff was so helpful and my group loved the feel of this old quaint building. The dinner was great according to a few of my people and again the staff were praised.
A few things which bring down my rating a little were breakfast and the Wifi signal.
The breakfast was adequate but bottlenecked at the hot food section. ..very slow.
Wifi connection, though free, was very slow.
General summary of the hotel was good and my group and I found Queens Hotel a pleasant experience.
I recommend this hotel as place to overnight at.

Thanks for your review, both the positives and the negatives. We strive to improve where possible. Tour groups sometimes do create bottle necks at the breakfast room as everybody in the group have to eat at the same time in order to be in time when the bus leave at a specific time. The breakfast that is included in our rates is a full English breakfast which give each individual his/her choice of how their eggs are to be done. This unfortunately do create bottle necks. In future we will possibly have a special breakfast for large tour groups to speed up the breakfast experience. As far as the internet connection is concern, we upgrade our connections regularly to keep up with the technology changes and increase in internet usage via mobile phones. Again when a big group is using the internet simultaneously it will slow down the internet speed. We have enquired on the increase of the speed of internet and will upgrade to a higher speed very shortly.

Arrived after a long trip from Cape Town and first impression was one of faded elegance.
The entrance was large and bright with an impressive staircase.
The receptionist was very welcoming and helpful.
The bedrooms were simply furnished but had everything we needed.
We ate in the hotel and the food was excellent - all of us receiving very large portions. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
The lounge was very comfortable to sit in after our meal.
Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of cereal, fruit, bread and delicious omelettes.
The only criticism of the hotel was the pool area which was in need of some attention.
Otherwise, if you have to visit Oudtshoorn we would recommend this hotel.

I am pleased that you have enjoyed your stay with us. The hotel was taken over from 1 February 2014 by a local group of business people of whom I am one. We have since then immediately started with the upgrading and refurbishment of the hotel . The swimming pool area is scheduled for upgrading in June 2014 and by the next summer the swimming poll area will be much more pleasant.

The hotel is situated next to the KKNK festival's main activities, which was great because we could walk to almost all shows. We'll visit again!

Directions to the parking area however needs improvement.

Hendrik,

Thank you for your response. As you probably have noticed , we were busy with the repainting of the exterior of the hotel. Once this is finished new directional signs to the parking at the back of the hotel will be erected. During the annual KKNK festival, the road to the hotel is closed and special arrangement were made to give guests alternative directions to the parking area. Emails were sent out to all the guests. I apologize if the message did not reach you prior to your arrival.

Regards,

Alie Killian

We have stayed at this hotel before, and we will stay there again - we so enjoy its homely and personalised touches. We were again made to feel at home by warm and friendly staff and stayed in a wonderful room overlooking the garden courtyard. Oudtshoorn is a long car-trip away for us, and the Queens Hotel provides just the tonic to remedy the stress of travel.
