“Absolutely wonderful!”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

Couldn't believe it when we came across this place on our travels round South Africa, spent two wonderful days here, stunning place, excellent, friendly service. Everything was made so easy and relaxing for us. Gorgeous, glamorous tent with all the home comforts and luxuries and lovely to be staying near some lazy hippos :) We were treated like V.I.P.s and the food is superb. Completely recommend it :)

Wow! Where do I start? We booked for 1 night as it was our 29th wedding anniversary. I only mentioned it to reservations when I booked, take note. Upon arrival, at the gate, we were asked are we day visitors or checking in where we stated we were checking in. The gentleman asked us to sign in and then we proceeded to drive to the parking lot. As soon as we parked, there was a golf cart/courtesy vehicle waiting for us with a very friendly gentleman by the name of Johan who addresses us by our surname!!!! Were we impressed or what?? He loaded our baggage and took us to reception where a lady was waiting in a private lounge to check us in. 2 Complimentary glasses of orange juice was also presented to us!! She explained everything to us in detail and then Johan took us to Tent No. 9 in the shuttle and showed us where everything was in the tent. The tent was to die for!! It should really be very close to 5 stars!! It was a waterfront tent furthest from the actual lodge and to us, probably the best tent. Also waiting for us in the tent was a complimentary bottle of champagne with a typed card congratulating us on our anniversary - even more wow!! Well from then on it was pure bliss. The different bird life to the hippos grunting as they swim passed our tent was simply amazing! The MD even took time out to chat to us at the main lodge which is normally unheard of! The staff are super friendly from the reception, to the barman and to the restaurant staff - everyone!! The food (dinner and breakfast) was superb as well. We even had a turndown and fudge put on each side of the bed upon our return from dinner. This place is a little gem stuck away in the Karoo and I urge you to book! Awesome!

OMG this had the WOW factor, so sad only had one night for me this was one of the most magical come dream places to stay. I really don't know where to start, the setting is breath taking, walking onto the deck at the reception and restaurant, looking over the water. Our tent was incredible very warm beautifully decorated the bath overlooked the water, the decking went out over the water and the scenery was stunning, So peaceful and romantic, the staff were great, the food was wonderful.
I got up early and took the blankets and sat on the chair and watched all the animals come the water hole. This made my holiday thanks guys

Room Tip: all the rooms are lovely don't be fooled by tented it is only the shell and it is so much fun.

Buffelsdrift maybe a let down for those who wish to knock-off the Big Five from their list of must-do but in its own right it offers spellbinding views of the stunning semi-arid Klein Karoo region, leaving one asking for more. Sunsets are especially gorgeous as the fractured rays of the setting sun drenches the shrubby landscape in a rich ochre. The three hour game drive involves a rough ride on a 4x4 Jeep as zebras, water bucks, giraffes and springboks are caught ambling in and around the bushes. If you are lucky you also get to see the Wild buffalo!! A dinner at twilight, in a thatched gazebo overlooking the watering hole is a must for those looking for quiet romance.

I wish I had these type of tents whenever I campout! By no means was it camping, but the setting and the wildlife surrounding helped make it seem like it was roughing it. The best part of the season, as it was mid July and cool, was the bed turn down when all the heaters were turned on and it was made extremely cosy. My family was very impressed with the closeness to the pond and the hippos!

There are several options in town to eat, but after experience the fantastic venison steaks at the resort restaurant, who would go anywhere else. We were only there for two nights, but we were delighted to eat the same thing twice. The chef on the grill was a master. The restaurant is also open to non guests and would be highly recommended!

Great value on everything we received. The safari was advertised as an animal drive, and meet and exceeded our expectations! The guide was very pleasant and knowledgeable.

Room Tip: The farther away from the lodge it is darker and closer to the hippos, great sights and sounds al ni...

We had no idea what to expect because we were on a group tour so didn't know where we were staying. But boy were we lucky! Buffelsdrift is an amazing place. We loved every minute of it. Welcoming and helpful staff, delicious food, comfortable beds in up-market 'tents', not to mention the fantastic safari drives and seeing many animals. The highlight was the white rhino who came right up to the jeep to rub her horn on the front of it. She seemed very happy to see some company and we spent quite a number of minutes observing her. To have adult and baby giraffe cross the road in front of us was also magical as was the sight of meerkats waking up early in the morning. Our guides were very informative and happy to answer any questions. The stops for refreshments on the top of the hills was unexpected but very welcome. I'd go back tomorrow if I could but unfortunately I'll probably never get back there -- but I thoroughly recommend it to everyone.

We - a 5 persons family - enjoyed our stay in that perfectly situated and equipped Resort Ranch very much:
the nature around is beautiful, the safaris offered were very qualified and interesting (f.e. the elephant feeding or riding),
the tents are well equipped (as it was winter time we had to use the heater, they switched on the electric blankets) and
the food (à la carte included!!) in the restaurant was so delicious!
We absolutely recommend Buffels Drift, it was one of our two favorites on our Garden Route trip.
